I have finished NYCO #2--a pair of socks made from the wool left over

Hi, Katherine--

Years and years ago I learned to join yarns by just knitting 2 or 3 stitches with both strands, and then dropping the old one, weaving both ends in on the inside later. Makes for a nearly invisible, and completely knotless join.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier--my ISP was doing an "upgrade" and what should have taken 6 hours took 6 days. Grrr.

And it didn't cause lumps in the socks? I have used that join, too, but never thought to do it with socks. Interesting.

I think the original comment was to pray for anyone knitting a sweater on needles smaller than US #1. (I had just swatched a lovely fabric on US #00 and there was this internal dialogue of:

"It's wonderful fabric!" "It would take forever!" "It's so soft!" "Knitting that stuff leaves lint all over the house!" "It is gorgeous!" "I would go blind with that fine navy yarn before I learned to knit that stitch by feel!" "I'd be crazy to cast on a sweater in this stitch!". . . .

I assume that the prayers of RCTY kept me from being crazy enough to go ahead and start that project. But, I still have the needles and miles of the yarn : )

I use the "just knitting 2 or 3 stitches together" technique of joining yarns in boot/house socks all time. I knit those socks a little big and shrink/felt to size and have not had any problems with lumps. I started doing it when I was knitting socks out of Lopi, and just never stopped. Just got lazy I guess.

I am knitting with #2 needles and never notice a lump when I am wearing the socks.
