sources for cro-needles?

I'm working on my second Wonderful Wallaby (mine this time, the last one was for my neice). I'd like to pick up a cro-needle for doing the pouch, but am having trouble finding anything other than the addi turbo version for $26+shipping (a little too salty for something I won't use all the time). Any suggestions other than making my own (not really all that hard to do, I just don't have the time to make one right now).

Thanks!

Hi Amanda,

Have you looked at Annie's Attic website?

I tried Annie's Attic on a tip from my LYS owner. I couldn't find them there, unless I'm not looking hard enough.

Hi Amanda,

I'm not sure what they look like at all, but I just was there poking around and the only thing close that I saw was crochnit, otherwise I didn't see any cro-needles and doing a search didn't turn up any either.

Hugs,

Aren't they the same as the knit cro-hook made by Boye or Susan Bates? Available at Michael's, Jo-Ann's....

No, crochenit/crohooks are double ended crochet hooks. A cro-needle is a crochet hook on one end and a knitting needle on the other. They're really useful for picking up collars, pockets, etc.

I figure I can find a dowel the size I want and have Dad carve a hook in one end (he's a better carver than I am) and turn the other end into a needle the same way I made wooden needles for my Mom and sister.

How big does it have to be? Lacis have some dpn knitting needles that have a hook on one end.

Or you could get an afghan hook the right size and take the button off the end, and file the end to whatever shape you want.
