Openwork Sweater Pattern Request (Crochet or Knit)

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a easy openwork short sleeved sweater pattern. I am more familiar with crochet but wouldn't mind trying to knit one though.

I'd like free, but if it's a good pattern I'd pay a little for it.

I'm between a 14 and 16 US dress size, I usually like XL tops (I like them a little loose).

I was thinking of doing this in black with a tank top underneath. I live in Florida so long sleeves are not wanted.

I prefer a cotton or soft, washable yarn that's not expensive as I am not rich. 8-) I am not yet good at substituting yarn so I thought I'd mention my yarn preference.

Thank you all in advance!

Wendy,

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but you might try checking the free pattern sites at

Also Cascade has free patterns listed at

and

has some also. If you can find something in there that is of the style you are looking for, you can work with finding a substitute yarn that is of the same gauge. Also, if you have a library nearby, I have found that to be a good source of pattern books.

Thanks Noreen! I've been looking too and came up empty handed...but I will continue as well. It's nice when people help you out.

Wendy, I just recalled another short sleeved, openwork jacket/sweater pattern that I've seen recently. If you look at

, Jill Vosburg has a couple of themthat might be along the lines of what you're looking for (specifically, check out the Lightening Lace, Drifting Dreams and FlyAway Free -- there isanother picture of the Flyaway Free at

.This is not a free pattern, it's a for-sale pattern through yarn shops andmail order, but I do recall seeing the Lightening Lace in a past issue ofCast-On magazine. Hope that helps!
