my wife is interested in taking up spinning. she already knows knitting and crocheting and would like to add this to her skills. what is a good place to start looking? i know nothing about this but want to surprise her. who can i contact to figure out what is needed and how much it all costs? thanks so much.

Don't surprise her, as not every wheel is a good wheel for every person to spin on.
Encourage your wife to learn how to drop spindle, then she can start hitting fiber festivals to try out wheels. When she finds one she likes THEN you can buy her a wheel.
