Stick a fork in me...

I'm done.

With the Sock Wars, that is.

Yes, my demise arrived yesterday while I was at the UCLA-WSU football game. Actually, it was a phone call during our pregame concert that brought the bad news. The conversation went thusly:

"Hello?" "I think you're done." "How so?" "The mail came, and there's a package that looks suspicious for socks." "Uh oh, where's it from?" "Seattle." [1] "That's it, I'm out."

Yes, my demise arrived in the form of a lovely pair of intentionally mismatched socks, made of a lovely variegated merino wool. One is purple with pink heel and toes, and the other is the opposite. Nice a toasty warm, and provide good sliding action on the wood floors My killer, Purla Hari - there's also a Knitta Hari involved in the War - softened the blow by including two small boxes of chocolates :-)

So that's it for me, then. 3 kills before being offed myself. Not too shabby. I am planning on participating in Sock Wars II whenever it may be, and I plan on watching the carnage for the remainder of the current War.

On a somewhat less happy note, one of the participants received a terrible pair of Socks of Doom as her demise. Bad and smelly yarn, horrible craftsmanship, dropped stitches all over the place. Either someone didn't care about their work or took the "Socks of Doom" thing a bit too seriously. This poor victim's friend posted about this and asked if there was anyone who would be willing and able to help make it up to this friend. I volunteered, so I get to make one more pair of SoDs, and I'm planning on making them nice ones; I picked up some wool-silk yarn at a new local yarn shop, and this will make some lovely socks.

[1] I'm also expecting some socks in progress from my last victim who's in Ottawa, which is why I asked where it was from.
