Thank you Nora / Reply to All

I was one of the ones who hit Reply to All when I sent my email to Nora, thanking her for the work she had done on the comfortghan. I wanted to share my feelings of appreciation with the gals who had also participated in the project.

Nora takes care of the projects from beginning to end - she sends out emails to all who are interested in participating; she keeps track of who has/hasn't sent in squares; she assembles all the squares into an afghan, and we all know how much work that part alone is. Then she wraps the package, takes it to the Post Office, and pays the postage out of her own pocket.

Because the comfortghans are Secret Projects, I couldn't post on RCTY about this, so I hit Reply to All, to be able to share my thank-you to Nora, with all of you who had also been in on the project. That way, the Secret Project would remain a secret.

I'm sorry I ruffled so many feathers.

I'm with you, Rusty! I did the same thing, and for the same reason. It never crossed my mind that anyone on this newsgroup would be upset by it.

I'm sorry if it bothered some people, but I'm not sorry for thanking Nora because she deserves all the thanks and recognition! *hugs for Nora*

- I can't speak for anyone else's email accounts, but mine have anti-virus and spam filters, and neither of them found anything wrong with the messages that were sent out to everyone for Nora.

Again, I don't care what antivirus or firewall anyone uses. Replies to Nora should've go TO Nora. My two cents Noreen

You are so right, Nora deserves thousands of thanks. I also sent her a response but didn't see a reason to send copies to others. However, I don't really mind if others want to. What still puzzles me is why anyone would want to send a copy of her message and the picture to everyone who already had it.

Jan, if I sent a copy of her message and the picture too, I was not aware of it. I simply typed my reply and hit "Reply All" and assumed I was only sending my reply.

I just checked some of the other emails in question that were still in my mailbox and some of them included Nora's message and picture, but some did not.

OK to let you all know I have received all the replies and didn't mind and none of them included the picture. I only got the picture with the original e-mail.

I don't put my email in rcty as anyone could be '''earwigging''' and send out all sorts of stuff, but I don't mind it coming out to a group of known members from here, if I didnt want it shared out, then I'd put it in an email to Nora. I replied to group because that is exactly what it was ... a group effort, with all that Nora does I wouldn't expect her to remember everyone who didn't want their email or anything else shared for that matter, she has enough to do, so the simpliest way when I receive something that I have to reply to, would be to tell her there and then not to share out my email addy.. Nora does a great job, but she isn't a computor, she can't be expected to remember every little detail about any one person in particular, Also anyone wanting to find out someones email snail mail addy and even phone number is very easy...there are many sites and telephone exchanges on the net who tell all..

Cheers...Cher

As someone who uses Google a lot to search for things for work, I decided I didn't want to put anything else out there with my name, including posting to newsgroups. I don't mind the bonkers email being out there because only people who I tell will know that is me. It's also why I stopped using my name in posts. I am happy to give my name privately though.

I guess we all have our preferences, and I agree we can't expect others to remember them. We have to take care of it ourselves.

Indeed that is so true. Being part of the cyberspace environment, It is near inpossible to have your personal information, passed on or to get spam, etc. I do not think that there is much privacy. So maybe if you want it, it need to be done on your own computer to block things you do not want to happen, and do not have things on your computer you do not want other people to know, or about or read. It is the unnoticed roving eyes, that reach into your computer you have to worry about. Maybe we all should just have one computer for web and cyber space visites and all our personal stuff is on a computer not connected to the internet at all. Els

Ditto -- that's kind of what I was trying to say earlier. I don't put my email in the usenet posts because of the ability to google for it -- but between the exchanges and other things, I think a good number of us already have a lot of other people's email address. So if one person sends an email to two other -- and each of those others already have the email address of the other two -- it doesn't make a bit of difference whether they send it to all of them or use a bcc. The only advantage to a bcc is to keep the email address from showing up to other recipients. At this point, I'm not too concerned with who from THIS list has my email address, because you're known to me and a lot of you probably have it already anyway from previous communications, and I like hearing from everyone here! And so far, I've never gotten any chain letters or unsolicited 2meg cartoons from anyone here like I have from a couple of my "family & friends". :) Everyone here has been extremely considerate of everyone else's private info.

My most annoying email peeve currently is with one particular family member who has a broadband account, assumes everyone does, and rather than writing me anything personal, like how everyone is doing, what's new, how's the job, things you'd want to hear from someone like that, she will just hit the "forward" button on things like cartoons, chain letters, urban legends, and (most annoying) big huge cartoons or video or sound clips, and then send them literally to everyone in the address book. So I'll get home with my puny dial-up account and find myself with several meg of stuff to download before I can even get to the real mail. And odds are, whatever she sends, I've usually seen before anyway.

Yep, I think a lot of people in the general population would be stunned at how much personal info there is out there that any 12 year old with an AOL account can get at. A lot of it has always been available, as public record, but one had to work a lot harder to get it before, and one would really have to have a reason to go through all the legwork; but now it's a lot more accessible by people that might not really have a good reason for getting it.

OK, who can find all this information about me? Assume you only know what's in my posts and not any info you have received in private emails. If you can find the info, please be kind and don't post any of it or a link to it but I would like to know how you found it. Thanks.
