Yarn bracelet

Are you talking about a clue (or clew, or klew, depending on where you hail from)? A thing for minding your ball of yarn while you walk around and knit/tat/crochet/other?

The simplest yarn keeper bracelet is a longish loop of ribbon pushed through a disk with a small hole in the center. The loop then goes up through the center of the ball and hangs over your arm with the ball resting against the disk. I have seen these for sale in catalogs, but if you have a yard or so of nice ribbon in the house you can improvise with a plastic lid or maybe a bead or two and a couple of CDs glued back-to-back. You'd need the beads because of the size of the CD hole, unless you put an electrical grommet in the hole, like you do when making a CD spindle.

This would be an excellent use for a Kumihimo braid instead of a flimsy ribbon, eh Els?

Thank you Helen, you got me out of a miss understanding here....LOL I thought Noreen that you were looking for a Thread bracelet....(smiling)

Indeed a wrist distaff or ball holder is easy to make, and indeed kumihimo is a great suggestion to use for the cord Helen. Come to think of it you could use a mini CD and a kumihimo braid with a large bead sitting on a knot in the braid. Thread the CD on top of the bead and make a loop on the other end of your braid and voila, you have a ball holder.

In my Spindle Spinning From Novice to Expert by Connie Delaney, is a discription of a wrist distaff.

Again it could be a sturdy kumihimo braid. Make it long enough so you can make a loop around your wrist. Leave two generous tail ends after you have made the wrist circle. Now wrap you roving around the tail ends of the braid, fastening it first around the wrist loop. Start spinning with your drop spindle. There are many variants on this theme. I am sure there should be many on the internet.

Yes, a mini CD would be just the thing. Any ball big enough to need a standard CD would be a bit heavy to hang on your arm! Maybe one of those huge coat buttons they used to have in the 60's would serve as well. I think I have one in my button tin.
