OT: Quietly Ranting

So, AOL tells us that they're closing the blog function at the end of the month, and we can "easily" transfer all the content over to google's Blogger.

Yeah, right.

After an hour and a half, I have finally reached the conclusion that the guy who writes Help does not communicate with the guy who designs the web pages.

Help keeps telling me to click the Import button and it'll happen by magic. I'll give a finished MLI to anyone who can find the Import button on any of the pages that came up on my screen.

And there's no way to actually contact our dear friends at google to let them know this is a problem ... you just keep getting sent back to the same page that doesn't really help at all, and doesn't ever connect you to a page where you can send an actual e-mail to google instead of just clicking "no, this paragraph didn't help" and being sent back to the same page again.

The good news is, we did not wait till midnight on the 31st to do this. We have plenty of time to manually save every single post to either my hard drive or my Web Guru's hard drive, and then manually upload every last bleeping one of them to our website when we get it back online, instead of just linking to "here's the blog with the older posts".

No, Sheena, this is not a problem with AOL. It's a problem with google not doing what google's Help page says that google will do. The only thing AOL did wrong here is to believe google that they could do it, instead of contracting the project out to some other company.
