New google function?

I noticed tonight that every message header on google has another item added after the 'new message' counter.

Every single one has a link "Report as Spam" - I went ahead and clicked on all the advertisements - I promise, I was careful not to report any legit member of RCTQ!

Wonder if it will have any effect? Does it appear anywhere on other newsreader services?

I've used this feature for quite a long time, and it really does cut down on the garbage! It doesn't stop those irritating "for your help I'll share $1 million with you" things, but that is because the senders keep changing their addresses to defeat the spam filters. But it really is worth doing! And if you accidentally click something from a friend, all you have to do is go to the spam folder and hit the "move" button and send it back to the inbox. (Just don't hit the "empty spam" button first!)

I've used the "report spam" feature in Gmail (google's mail function) and it makes a very quick difference. I'm having a rip roarin' time tonight reporting all the obnoxious and nasty "spam" that's on our group the last day or two. Good grief, what are people thinking these days? I mean, one of the posts (and you all know which one I'm talking about) just about made my eyes pop. And I'm not easily offended. People used to have to find ads for such things in the back of magazines that they bought in brown paper wrappers from behind the counter. Now, they just broadcast the .... contraption......in my quilting newsgroup. I understand needing to make a living, but this is really over the top.
