OT:Good thoughts and prayers

Good thoughts and prayers are needed for a good friend and another man's family.

At the Pride Parade today, a friend of ours was driving the Grand Marshall car. Some problem with the gas pedal, or different configuration of the pedals, and she hit and ran over a man helping to carry one of the banners that was leading the parade. He died nearly immediately of his injuries. The parade had literally just started and turned the corner onto the main street and of course was immediately cancelled.

Our friend and her husband I am sure are having a very difficult afternoon and evening and days ahead. Also, I'm sure that the man's family are having a very difficult time as well.

Of course it is all being sorted out by the police and investigators and we will learn more in the following days. Just tragic all around.

We are all stunned and getting through the rest of the day.

Thanks for reading.

Thank you all. The board of the community center and the executive director are issuing a statement tomorrow. We've had a wonderful week of activities and will make it through this. We had another event to attend this evening and through all the music and fund-raising we held everyone particularly close. It's made Bert and I think about how quickly one of us could be gone someday, and while I reach another decade birthday this week, ugh, it hit very close as the man whose life tragically ended was the same age as I. There have been lots of hugs and "I love yous" today.

What an awful situation. Please encourage your friend to get councelling for PTSD. As well as her husband. Both individually and jointly. A friend's SIL was the wrong-doer in a fatal accident a couple of years ago. She doesn't remember how the accident happened but it has almost destroyed both she and her husband. Another friend of ours was also involved in a fatal accident - completely not his fault. Police were chasing car thieves but the accident happened nonetheless. He benefitted greatly from PTSD counselling.

I can't imagine being in your friend's (or any of the above's) shoes.
