Vellum & Glue

Hallo, I've just bought some vellum quotes and stuff - all very delicate. How do I affix these?. Won't glue show through?

Any ideas - read back posts and found "Lick 'n Stick" glue ??? and spray glue suggested. Are all spray glues the same? Any favourites in this department?

Also found some transparent overlays - probably even more difficult to get the glue not showing - any more ideas for these? Thanks.

Diana

I'm a big fan of brads to hold down transparencies and of the Xyron machine for my vellum. Hope you find something that works for you!

Hi and thanks, I'll look for some brads - haven't investigated these at all (still new at this). What a Xyron machine? Diana

You can get special vellum tape that's extra-clear glue... if you're lucky it doesn't show through at all, though sometimes it leaves a noticable line...

And I bought new glue dots yesterday and they had special 'vellum dots' - I'll report back when I've tried them out! They were expensive ($7 for 10 sheets)... you lay the vellum on top of the sheet and press down gently to pick up the glue, then put it down where you want to stick it.

Thanks, Karen, Have you tried/heard of Lick 'n Stick glue? Hope the glue dots work, meanwhile. Diana

Zyron makes, among other things, sticker makers. I have the 500 and I love it. No electricity, no heat, you just stick in your thing you want sticky and turn the handle, and out it comes. There are different ones with different capabilities for different prices, their website is here:

Hi Luna, I checked the link - so this 'toy' laminates and makes stickers and other stuff??? Probably expensive...Do you have to feed it as well with ??? Thanks Diana

I just used the vellum glue dots for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I agree, I thought they were expensive. But I loved the final look-you couldn't see one iota of glue in any of it. I would definitely recommend them. Kathy

With an X, Luna, an X!!!

On the real website are the prices, if you click the "Create a sticker" link. I bought mine at Michaels for more than on Xyron's website, but oh well.

You feed it with a cartridge, and when that runs out, you have to buy another > Hi Luna,

The "regular" price of the Xyron may be more at Michales, but if you can wait, you can use one of their 40 or 50% off coupons. Also, Michales has the refills for all the Xyron machines on sale quite often.

I haven't tried any of those vellum glue dots. I've seen them in the store, but haven't gotten them. I normally use brads or eyelets, or sometimes even other stickers depending on how it looks. I love using my Xyron for vellum. It turns the entire thing into a sticker, works great. Like MC said, Michaels usually has the refills on sale, and mine have lasted quite a while before having to replace them.

I second the vellum tape. I bought & used some for the first time recently and I was amazed. I think it is well worth the price. If you think you'll use vellum frequently, it is worth the expense.

I've used brads and embellishments to "cover", but there are times when this technique clutters or overpowers. I can see a challenge with quotes which are delicate -- don't have a lot of "edge" with which to work.

One word of caution...the vellum tape gummed up my scissors. It comes off with rubbing alcohol but I needed to have two scissors while I worked...one for paper and one for vellum tape.

You can only laminate with the 510 or above. I have all of them but I use the 150 and the 250 the most. The 500 is a waste if you buy the 510. If you can't find them at a craft store with a 40% off coupon you could look at

as their prices are usually good.

Mine would last longer if I stopped letting my nephews play with it. When I wasn't looking, the 3 year old got ahold of it and somehow ruined a cartridge, so it was all a mess with the stuff doubling back on itself and all stuck together. I don't even know how he managed to do that.

The 8 year old does fine with it, but he likes to make really big stickers. Last time he made one sticker that said what day his birthday is, and another one listing what he wants for his birthday, and he stuck them on the front of his shirt.

LOL! The 8 year old sure does know how to lobby for what he wants! A future in politics, perhaps???

I usually use brads or eyelets for my vellum and overlays. I've seen vellum tape, and several here have said it works great.

Yeah, I only got the 500 because it was cheaper and I have access to a laminator at work.

I've tried a lot of the glues that say they won't show through vellum and they all do show. So, I stick with either eyelets and the like for adhereing it or using a spot of glue, but having something to cover the spot, so it won't show.

Like on this recipe page I used candy corn pieces I made to cover the corners that had glue.

Hi Scout Lady, I wasn't even thinking about laminating, initially, just looking to 'glue' vellum - so I'd better have a look at this little toy since I don't understand the concept right now ;o). Thanks Diana
