Help from IT savy Stitchers

First of all, please note that I managed to use 'stitchers' in the subject line.

Now feeling quite pleased about my short term memory, to the question: I'd like to use one of the free photo sites so I can actually show people what I've been working on, but I'm virtually computer illiterate in comparison with some people here.

I found one site that I could sent pics to but when I checked about the size of the pics I could send, I could only send a 1 meg pic and every pic I took was over that size. So a series of questions arise from this; is there a way of sending pics of a smaller size? would this mean they are of lesser quality? do all free hosting sites have about the same size specifications?

I don't even know whether these are all the questions that should have occurred to me, so if anyone can give me guidance on what I should know, need to find out, or any helpful sites, I'd appreciate any help given.

Most of the photo sites give you the option to resize your images. You don't usually want an image that requires scrolling in order to view it. I think mine tend to run about 50 to 100 K depending on what I'm showing. I use

for a lot of my pictures. It's really easy to use, and then I can just post a URL. Resizing doesn't affect the quality if you are making it smaller.A free program to play around with your images is Irfanview -

It's not as powerful as Adobe or Paint Shop Pro, but it will do a lot, and the price is right!

Make sure you're saving your pics as jpg files, some digital cameras - and image processing progs - use different file formats.

It's really outside the scope of this forum to discuss compressing jpegs, but try a google on jpg files and compressing. A hefty original picture file will quite happily compress down to a much smaller file for web use. Typically you can go from a file size in excess of 2 or 3 megs down to a file size of a few tens of kb, without degrading the viewing quality.
