Anyone ordering from FMG? / A few Q's...

Isn't anyone ordering from FMG?

I was rather put off when I was charged $30 for shipping to Australia for only a few strands of beads. I just thought this was normal (being such a newbie). It turned out they charged me so they could send me their catalogue. I liked the catalogue, but I had no idea they were sending it and that was why the shipping was so high. I felt I should have been given the option. Since then I have received an annual catalogue without charge, while this nice, I still felt the charges should have been itemised in the first instance. Also I ordered some saphire beads which were very expensive, the photo's were misleading and the size not actually spelled out, when I got them they were teeny tiny. You live and learn. However, it led me to seek other, as it turns out, better value, sources for my beading supplies. So at this point, I have never re-ordered from them.

Well, they gouge people in the US too. Shipping is $6.88 or 10% of your total, whichever is greater, PLUS a $2.65 handling fee! Now, I don't know what other mail-order bead companies charge, but that seems way excessive. I understand wanting to discourage small orders, but that seems built to discourage all orders! They have really cool stuff in their catalog though....

I can get twice as much for my money by going elsewhere. I've used Tobead several timesand they are terrific! There really isn't much of a chance that I'll buy anything thru FMG.

Bah... Been busy with the calc working out order totals from different places. Now, FMG is the only place I can find GF liquid gold and watch faces, and mum wants a dragon pendant from there. If I use GP liquid gold I can get it cheaper from a UK supplier than FMG (only by about £2 though) and I can't find watch faces or anything like the dragon pendant in any of my UK catalogues.

Would GP be protected enough by being interspersed with chip beads?

Tell me which one, I have a couple that FMG sells that I can part with. I may have the one you want...although I may not too. ;-) Send me a link via e-mail for the picture of one (you can find it on their website) Or, tell me the page and order # and I'll look it up in my catalog. Oh, and I don't have any gold colored ones, just the silver colored (pewter, whatever).

Thanks Debbie, that site looks hopeful... have emailed to ask about shipping costs and availability of a few other things... *crosses fingers*.

If the shipping is too much, let me know. I can always go over there and pick it up and then send it to you. They aren't very far away. I want to go check them out anyway. lol

I occassionally order from FMG, but probably won't for another 3 or 4 weeks.

I've just had a reply and the shipping's fine (and she's checking out a couple of other items for me), but thank you for offering. However, I order you to go there ASAP and drool over some beads! ;)

Just so's you know.... FMG does NOT have a showroom... there's no where to go, no way to fondle the beads. been there, tried that, sent away empty.
