Frits?

Ok, on the thread about "favorite lampworked beads", I keep reading "Frits/noFrits"...

Can someone send me a link to a bead with frits? what the devil are frits? :)

Thank you!

Short description - frit is ground up glass in various 'lump' sizes. It's used a surface decoration or to add colors to a bead.

Me too but I did get a cool bead at the show last Saturday that has little coppery bumpies along the edge. I guess those are frits. Mostly tho, I like the smooth feel of glass.

Since I've become a frit junkie, lately, I figured I'd chime in with some examples:

This one has frit both inside and on the surface

The green in this one is frit, sprinkled over silver and melted in:

Here's another one with frit on the surface, melted in:

One more....this was just frit sprinkled over the surface then melted in

I like melted-in frit (sometimes). But mostly I don't like frit. ~~ Sooz

Sorry, but don't I know it - I didn't like frits either till I saw what was possible. I would love to spend a day with any of those people and learn how they work their frit magic. It's definitely more than just rolling the bead in crushed glass...

me too! every time I see her beads I think it's Jenifer Geldard - who I also think rocks. She uses a lot of enamels I think.

Oh, I'm so glad someone knew where these examples were.

Frit under encased is something that is really cool.
