Earrings using chain for ear wire

Hi, everyone,

I have an old pair of earrings that were done with a length of flexible wire as the ear wire, and I can't find anything similar anywhere. I'd like to find the components in silver if possible, and would appreciate any hints.

Thank.

I found some examples on eBay while trying to get my brain working.

I also found them called Ear Threads through Google. Apparently they're going through a new bit of popularity now, my sister asked me about them as she'd seen them on 'Sex and the City' and thought I'd know where to find them. My set are from the '70s and I had no idea they were available again so I had no idea where to find them.

I think they'd look great with some tiny lampwork on them....

I didn't see that part, your reply didn't show up on my newsreader and I had to Google it.

Thanks for the help, I'll be writing today. In my defense I can only say it's been a bad week.

gawd, I had several pairs of those years, and year ago! Someday I'll learn that everything old is new again!

I made me a set something like this in high school. Wish I could remember what I used (small chain and some kind of wire/post {necklace part?)) They were GREAT! Threaded them through the 2 or three holes I had in each ear (can't remember if this was before or after the 3rd hole), moved them around once in while, slept in them with no problem. But then again, this is also when I was wearing about 3 sets of fishhooks per hole so they were pretty stretched out! (big old heavy metal fishing lure earrings - which went really well with the long straight hair, rainbow eye shadow, long red fingernails, army jacket and various other fashion understatements I entertained at the time!)

I saw some yesterday when out shopping.

My friend said 'If you wore it first time around, you're too old to wear it again.'

Yes. This is true.

SO, since I'm too old to wear the latest 80's-revival fashions, I am doing my part by making sure Miss-Almost-Seven has the best in "retro" wear for starting 1st grade. :) My ex is NOT thrilled with my fashion directives, but this is the same guy who criticised a FIVE year old for wearing "hippie pants" and told her not to wear them to his house anymore.

No one will squash my baby's budding fashion sense, especially not a guy who still wears long underwear under knee-length cutoff shorts with Converse, a band T-shirt, and an Army jacket. NOOOOOOO.

(Same said guy is a diabetic who is too stupid to stop drinking and smoking despite retinal neuropathy, impotence, and loss of sensation in his hands and feet. HIM give advice? I don't think so...)

OTOH, if you still have it kicking around from the first time, your kid looks ultra cool in the "vintage" versions. Her favorites are tee shirts from long defunct radio stations and rock bands.

I do toss the XXS ones though - that would be cruel. Manda is a bigger person than I am. (She wore my fifth grade dirndl to school in the first grade) She's a size seven, which is perfectly fine - it's not her fault that her Mama was a munchkin, and that fashions were way too darned tight. I'll never fit in those again, nor would I want to. Forty-two trying to look fourteen is just plain sad.

I'm glad I don't have my 6" buffalo platforms anymore. I could easily foresee a trip to the emergency room for any kid trying to wear those these days. I know I didn't realize that I looked utterly ridiculous in those; in order to walk without falling, you had to stomp as if you had something nasty in your pants. And every one would have known if you had, because the jeans were so tight you had to lie down to zip them up. The pockets were merely there for show, and to hold your comb in one of the back ones. (for feathering back your hair, of course)
