The most stylish woman I ever met rarely wore shoes. Perhaps youre one of those who rise above styles and trends. Diana, barefoot if at all possible

Nice shoes! Course.. thats more than I spend in a 2 years on clothing. But if I had the dough Id have a closet just for shoes. I wouldnt wear them...Id just enjoy having them. .. knowing they were there. Like beads. :-) Diana

You'd fit in here. There is a Harley assembly plant about 2 miles from here.

You figured out you deserve shoes that you love? Oh that is so cool. Happy happy day. Diana

Find shoes to fit in a store? I don't think so. You know where I find most of my shoes? In the second hand stores and dumpsters. From people whose shoes have stretched too wide. The only shoes I've bought (new) in the last

5 years, are the size 7EE winter boots by Blondo in Canada. I'd been trying to replace a pair for 4 or 5 years. They zip down to the bottom on the side of the boot so I can get them on. They're not dressy, but they're plain enough that I can wear them as non-work boots.

I took a look at the site for Dave's wide shoes, but most of them have too long a vamp -- the part that covers the toes. My toes are short, so a long vamp cuts into my toe tendons or interferes with my arch. Wide shoes for me need to be wide nearer the end of the foot.

The drag queen shoes is a good alternative. You'll probably need a sling back because men's feet have heavier wider higher heels. You can often find them the same places you'd find plus sized lingerie, which cross dressers also use. Do you know any cross dressers you could ask? I recall one fellow in town who often dresses as a well dressed but not flashy woman. Plain low heeled pumps. Probably just what you'd like.

I stopped wearing used shoes -- even though I LOVE vintage shoes -- when one pair gave me a toenail fungus.

~~~~Also inspired by Kalera's post about her love for used shoes.
Gotta tell you guys --Zappos is beloved by chicks with big feet because they have a lot of larger sizes the stores won't carry. ~~ Sooz
I'll tell you, I'd spend $100 + for a pair of shoes happily if they'd fit. Even most of those wide shoes, if you look at those photos, the width is about 1/3 of the way back from the toes. On my feet the width is 1/4 or even 1/5 of the way back from the toe, and in the area where those shoes take that long sleek angle back from the toes. I'd have an inch or two of empty shoe to trip over. The last isn't much different, in the placement of the width in the sport shoes either, and the laces often don't go down far enough to get my toes in. I always remember my dad's shoes as having the sides that lace form a right angle to get over his shoes too.
I did ask a local leather worker what it would cost for custom shoes. He didn't laugh when I suggested $300, but his denial made it clear I was way short of the mark.
I think I'll cultivate the mysterious barefoot look, like LC suggested.
They seem to be pretty well covered in the little sizes as well. Not cheap, though. Manda wants a specific pair of Adidas (let's call them butt-ugly), and Zappos was the most expensive online source by a lot.
For someone like me, who doesn't outgrow shoes and has a weird size, paying an extra $10 is no big deal. But Manda has a nice, easy to find size, and outgrows shoes at will - I'm not paying any more than I absolutely have to.
Interesting how life imitates RCB: we went to dinner with my best friend the other night, and she was complaining about how tough it is to find shoes. She is a size 4.5 extra narrow. Even kids' shoes are no good for her, since they generally run wide. Next time she comes over, I'll have to look through the Zappo's site with her. (She has no computer, TYVM, and has no plans to ever get one)
Well, they're actually two-toned, in a way-- the bottoms are a blond wood, but the top is all one piece, in a single shade/hue, smooth (not embossed or anything), and there are no gew-gaws, tassels, etc. What else would you can them except "plain"? Unfortunately, they're starting to get little splits around the openings....
As for where to go "shoe shopping" for such treasures-- eBay. Got some neat-o hand painted black leather clogs, too. And red ones. And hunter green suede ones.... None cost more than $20, including the shipping. And the orange ones were brand new.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on
