OMG, Kalera -- I had a dog once who could spell "C-A-R". I had to say "automobile". (She eventually figured that out, too) ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

LOL! all of us could spell ice cream before we were two - and yes, so could my mother's dog and all the one's i've had.

i think the trigger was the phrase "want some . . . . "

I had a Doberman that could actually talk! He had a three word vocabulary. He could say Dillinger, his name. He could say Hubba Bubba, his nickname. And he could say the word that was most often said TO him, which was HUSH!....He had a tendency to bark a lot. Too bad I never got it on video tape. I could have sent it in to one of those funniest animal shows.

That's really something, because when I was a kid we had a Doberman named Harper who I swore could say "Out", "Walk" and "Cookie". Everyone laughed it off as being my active 7-yo imagination, but I was so sure he was saying the words. Maybe he really was!

He was the nicest dog. I wish someone would genetically engineer Dobies to get rid of the terrible health problems (like early death and insanity) they tend to have... or maybe just start up a breeding program to reclaim the breed by crossing it with another, stabler breed. (Something with a large cranium.)

HAW! Ice cream isn't all that bad for dogs, is it? It was the default special-occasion doggie treat when I was a kid.

I'm sure Harper WAS talking to you. Some animals want to talk so bad, you can just see it in their eyes. In Dillinger's case, I could get him to repeat the words after me about 98% of the time, but he would also use the word HUSH in an appropriate situation quite often. He would bark at me for attention, and if I would ignore him for a while, then finally put my hands on my hips and glare at him, he'd say HUSH!...HUSH DILLINGER! He was the second of three Dobies I had, and although he was very intelligent, he was certainly a problem child. He came to us as an unruly adult, and was quite the escape artist. He was a good dog with me and the ex-DH, but would try to eat any and all visitors. We finally had to find him a home with someone who lived in the country, so he could run, and not be chained up.
