I made some beads.

I went and got a few packages of SculpyII, and DH and I sat at the table and played around with a few of the colors. I ended up with some horrible looking tiny beads, a wonderful looking black and silver swirled pendant, and a black, silver, red, and turquoise cami (think army pattern) flat bead with my initial carved into it.

This*is*so*fun.

Dh had one tiny little (like 3mm long) black with red center bead and then he gave up on the beads and went sculpture on me, LOL! So he's got an awesome snake-man sitting in the oven right now.

*grins* I actually put everything away when he went to bed, and I got it all back out again so I could make some more. Now I've got a whole set of equally sized copper and black swirled beads sitting on the table. I love swirlies! And these don't look half bad, either! I'm gonna string them up with some turquoise ceramic beads and wear them proudly.

Maybe I can find the sculpty before I send the camera on Monday and add it to your package. I think I'm going to be sending you a bunch of magazines too if you want them.

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooosh. I've been wanting to get into basic bead making with poly clay, but my weird mind was holding me back. I kept telling myself that I'm not a polyclay bead gal--and that was to keep me from BUYING them! So today, while at Hobby Lobby, I eyed the 1/3 off sign plastered all over the polyclay and said screw it--they're MINE..Bwuhahahahahahaha! It helped that I had dropped Adam and Dare off at the mall, so I had no one around to make me make me feel guilty (no that wasn't a typo) It was SO hard not to load up the cart with all the pretty colors! I had to keep telling Tyler (cause HE was the one throwing in pack after pack, yanno.

*grin*) that Mommy needs to find out if she has an aptitude for it before buying 3 lbs of the stuff! As I walked to the checkout counter, I had to tell Tyler (ahem) that Daddy was prolly gonna freak but oh well he can freak cause I'm stuck at home all day and I need stuff to DO! Tyler, my loving cohort, agreed. Then he tried to eat the clay.

(Mommy should have listened to Tyler--Mommy is LOVING this medium!)

The really cool thing about this is that I'm making them for ME! And prolly anyone else I can foister, er, I mean gift my beginner beads to:) Nearly every piece of jewelry I've made over the past 4 months was set in "to be placed for sale" pile. I need some creativity that stays home.

Welcome to the madness...er, addiction...no...the FUN that is polyclay. (Yes, it's after 5:00 a.m. and I should go to bed, but I've got to put another coat of polyurethane on my last batch of beads ).

Can't wait to see your results :)

Wow--thank you for the vote of confidence, Kalera!

Just make sure you thoroughly clean your oven before you cook any food in it. The fumes from the polyclay are toxic and will coat the inside of your oven, unless you baked the pieces covered.

Can't wait to see pics.

I thought it was only toxic if you burnt them!

I've heard that eventually fumes will build up inside your oven, so if you're going to do a *lot* of baking, it's best to have a dedicated oven. I picked up a toaster oven (with temperature control) at my LHS for about forty bucks. Also found some toaster oven-sized pyrex baking dishes at a second-hand store.

Well, for right now, I've got parchment paper on a baking sheet, and it's only my third batch going in. I think that's enough for me today--I'm so freakin' tired I can't hold my pokey tool straight anymore, LOL!
