I've been doing a bit of bead netting since I got the gorgeous new Diane Fitzgerald book. Some of the pieces she makes are way, way beyond my current skill level, but it's fun, and I'm noodling around with it.
Some of the pieces she makes require being pinned onto a flat surface or around a template. Diane recommends using foam core board, which I did not have in the house. So, I looked around to improvise.
I found a cork bulletin board, about 12 by 18 inches. Not big, but a good size to sit on my lap while I work. I am using push pins to hold the netting in place, and it seems perfectly workable. A heck of a lot easier than cutting foam core at any rate.
I used my old reliable ruler tape (a roll of tape with ruler measurements on it) to go around the edges of the bulletin board, so I can make sure that my work is a consistent length all the way around. I also stuck a short length of stick on magnet tape to one bit to keep my needles from wandering off.
I'm delighted with my makeshift board, and am passing this along in the hope it might help some other tightwad beader like myself.
