Well, so what did you all do? I took down and redid the old photos that were hanging in my grandparents house using my scrapbooking skills to improve them and scanning them in the process. Mom had matted the photos originally about 10 years ago and before knowing anything about acid-free or anything, and she hadn't scanned them (they're the original photos). So, with her blessing and help, we took the old ones down, removed them from the sticky mat and cleaned them up with Undu, scanned them and then reformatted them. Basically I bought a sheet of matting paper from Michaels and covered a piece of foam core with it. I then took silk ribbons and made the cross hatch design like a bulletin board and used metal brads from MM to anchor the ribbons together. Then I matted each of the photos (about 24 per framed set) on complimentary card stock and stuck them behind the ribbons like they would be on a bulletin board. The end result was pretty good if I do say so myself :) Anyway, here's a couple of photos that my stepdad took of Mom, Grandma and my aunt looking at the finished product.
