Introductions! OT

I'm Karen. I live in Tracy California. 46 years old, been married almost 29 years (in July) I have 2 grown sons. One is married. No grand kids yet. I don't make beads, but I do like to make jewelry (most recently made all the jewelry for my friend's wedding in march) I like brick and peyote stitch and I like to go through the bead boxes and just admire them sometimes too. I also quilt and do some wearable art. Have dabbled at spinning and weaving. Geez sounds like all I do is play. ;-) I also help my Dad oversee my Mom's care and play taxi driver to DH's mom who is 82. She still drives a bit, but not in bad weather, after dark or on the freeway. Birthday is September 24.

Hi, Anna! Are you by any chance someone I'd know from the Houston Bead Society? If not, would you be interested in finding out more about it? Info is available at

Their next meeting is this coming Saturday, from 10AM to noon on the 2nd floor of Texas Art Supply on Montrose. Starlia is coming in from Austin, to go to the Intergem bead show, and we'll probably both be there. It would be cool to have another RCBer in the bunch! Celine

Hi my name is Mavis. I'm 36. I am married to my DH of 15 years. We have

2 children - a boy nearly 11 and a girl nearly 10. We live in the North Island of New Zealand with one very cheeky ginger cat, who we all love to bits :)

I have a wide variety of interests so bear with me ;)

Only late last year was introduced to beading by a good friend and am learning all the time. I also do a lot of sewing and am adding beads to some outfits I have made.

Coming from NZ I love the outdoors and particularly diving, swimming, walking and cycling. We live in the country, 5 minutes from the beach and live there in the summer. We also have a boat and are currently it is under maintenance but once it is on the water, it will be fishing, diving, fishing, diving, fishing, diving...

I also love gardening and other outdoor work. (I own my own lawnmower, chainsaw, scrubcutter etc etc and love to get out and put them to use as often as I can) I guess I'm a jack of all trades really. Comes from growing up on a dairy farm, I think.

Probably left heaps off, but that'll do

My turn :)

My name is Candace (and the gods be with you if you call me Candy...@ age 15, I told everyone I was neither a lil girl or a stripper, so please respect my given name). I'm beginning to think that I am 1) the youngest (visible) member on here and 2)the newest to the world'o'beads. I am 23 years old, born Dec. 11, 1980, and I got into beads and beading in January of this year. (Okay, I bought some stuff last summer, but never did anything useful with it until January)

I live in the middle of nowhere..Sikeston Missouri, or as dh likes to call it--Sucks-a-ton, Misery. I've been married to Adam for 3 years, this coming Cinco de Mayo, and we have two children, Darian Troy, who is 5 on Thursday, and Tyler Austin, who turned 1 on Feb 6th. I married my older ds's blood father's best friend (confuzzled yet?), and OMG did I get the better man! :)

I was born in Wyoming, then spent ten years in Illinois, then another ten in NoCali, before moving here last year. I'm a military brat, and so is dh, but HE got to move all over the place, while I spent forever on the same bases. We miss Cali, but can't afford to live there anymore...not until that magick lotto ticket appears in our greedy lil paws.

We have one pet, Lady Spazz, a classic American Red and Cream Tabby cat. She adopted us the day we moved into this house (Jan1st, this year) and being the ole softies that we are, we couldn't bear to turn away a poor defenseless 6month old kitten. Especially since she figured out how to crawl thru the heating system under the house, from the outside, and end up in our laundry room....repeatedly. And she chirps like a bird...no meow-ing for her!

I got into beading because I was looking for a way to supplement our income, in a manner that I would enjoy doing...and since I'm basically an artsy-craftsy kinda gal..it seemed the way to go. Now, I'm completely addicted...and so is DH and older ds! We do bead stringing, and although I have a smallish loom, I'm just not at a place where I have enough patience for it yet. I love to use Druk beads and cubes, and to multi strand seed beads. Until very recently, I just wasn't interested in faceted beads of any kind...but the sparkle of crystal is working on me, daily...lol.

Lampworks? Until I joined this group...my nose would turn up, my eyes would squint, and I would say EW! Now that I've surfed thru so many of this NG's member's websites..I am SO drowning in my own pool'o'drool. Just wait gals..when I win that big jackpot...you are all gonna be working overtime for ME! Muhhahahahaha!

Well, if you can get him to the Carrissa Plains area of San Luis Obispo County, CA, there are probably a few ranchers that would be interested.... The "squirrels" are actually a type of marmot ("ground squirrels"), and the big problem with them is that they tunnel fairly near the surface. When a large animal-- like a cow or horse-- steps on a tunnel, it collapses, and may break the animal's leg. Can't trap them-- too much ground to cover (the ranch the GSH went to has 22,000 acres), can't use poison-- the only effective poison is one that "keeps killing" (anything that eats the poisoned "squirrel" is also killed, aand anything that eats THAT animal, etc), and can use "fire bombs" only during wet season on limited acreage. So... "squirrel shooting" is a local sport that is actually useful. There even are contests on who can get the most during a specific time period (collect tails for proof), followed by a barbeque party (not barbequed "squirrel"). Kaytee "Simplexities" on

I have decided that this time I am NOT going to rush it. The fellowship only lasts 4 years, but they said frequently people take 5 years or more, and that that is pretty easy because by that time it should be easy to find a graduate assistanceship (I need to find one the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year anyhow, and the fellowship "tops it off", which allows me to take the most interesting GAship without worrying if it covers me financially or credit-hour wise). I feel that for me it is better to take all of the classes I want to take, and to make the most of the opportunity to do research etc. So...a new phase of life for me... I will NOT take an overload, will NOT force myself to take things out of order or beg to skip out of classes to finish on time, I WILL take what interests me and if I am excited enough to take a double or tripple minor , I just will let myself! Oh and hopefully I will give myself a little slack if I am pregnant (something I have zero experience with!) I hope everyone will hold me to that vow!

Remember, this will be available to people a year or two from now. So stuff like the above needs to be altered by me when I edit your stuff. Maybe add the year in parentheses or something, you guys? Thanks. Less work for me if you cover these things yourselves.

Also, try not to use emoticons -- I edit them out because Word doesn't like 'em. Things like this will make archiving your entry easier. ~~ Sooz

Ah! I'd wondered why you kept putting "squirrel" in quotes, and this explains it. *Not* what most of us would think of as a squirrel at all.

I'll tag this on because I accidentally deleted the original thread.

I'm Karen (between official last names at the moment). Divorced, engaged, mom of 2 (15 yo DD and 11 yo DS). Originally from PA, now happily in AZ (east of Phoenix). I live with the Best Guy Ever (Mike) and we're getting married in October. Oh, and my birthday is July 7.

I've been making jewelry since I was 14 (back in the days of liquid silver and carved animals). Digressed to be a serious fiberholic for many years (spinning, weaving, dyeing, and knitting). About 10 years ago my niece turned me on to polymer clay, which led back to jewelry, which led to lampwork. Now I melt glass for a living. Life is good. I still spin sometimes for relaxation, and occasionally knit socks and gloves (utterly useless in the desert LOL). I also play piano and classical guitar.

I'm an avid sci-fi reader, also like a good mystery. Mike and I are tag-team cooks when we have a chance (mostly weekends). We're currently in an apartment, and planning (fingers crossed) to buy a brand new house at the end of the year (gods and mortgage officers willing).

I've been told I have a twisted sense of humor. Matches the rest of me, I guess.

I've been doing a little bit of physical therapy exercises but it's been like Kathy, hurts and tears more than helps. So I have another appointment on the 27th and then onto the back doctor.

Thanks
