Beth Russell's new book

Being somewhat impoverished at the moment, I really should be avoiding temptation, but I wanted to check out some prices on a couple of books on Amazon.ca. While I was there, I thought I might as well take a look at Beth Russell's books.

It looks like she has a new book on Arts and Crafts patterns coming out. It isn't available in Canada yet, and her website doesn't list it in the books page. So has it been released elsewhere? Does anyone know if it is a rehash of previously released oop patterns, or is it new stuff? The only one I don't have is Victorian Needlepoint and I don't want to pre-order if the new one is a 'best of' book. TIA Dora

Amazon US shows an October 06 publication date. I'll add it to my wish list! Cheryl

Yes, it's out in time for Xmas, isn't it? Not that bolded all caps and stars work on my wish lists! Dora

According to amazon.com, this is a reissue of Victorian Needlepoint.

From the description:"Originally published as Victorian Needlepoint, and republished herewith new photos and designs, this is a timeless collection for allneedleworkers." Seems rather odd, is it or isn't it a reissue, if there are new designs then it isn't really, is it? OTOH, I know Victorian Needlepoint can be hard to come by...

Thank you! This information isn't on amazon.ca.

If it is a re-issue of Victorian Needlepoint then I will likely purchase it, or hint more strongly on my Xmas list. I've read complaints that the charts in VN were hard to read. Hopefully this will be rectified and this would be an extra incentive. Her charts tend to be color only, which may be hard to read, depending on the color.

As to the designs, her other books have more than 20 designs each. Several are spectacular, some less so. Perhaps some of the less successful designs have been pruned out.

I wonder why the name change - is "Arts and Crafts" in and Victorian out?

because Victorian is out and Arts and Crafts home decor is in.

Yep. Arts and Crafts is clean and sleek but Victorian is frumpy and musty. *giggle*

Then again, frumpy and musty would fit as well, so either way you were right on.

Dora,

I have Beth Russell's Victorian Needlepoint and love the book. Haven't worked any of the designs yet but enjoy drooling over it I think when her new one is released, I will take a look at it at the bookstore (hoping they have it) so I can compare the contents before I decide if I want to order it.

I'm amongst the droolers as well. Despite very good intentions, I've never actually made anything from her books, even though I love her designs. Partly because I already have too many UFO's, partly because I seem to want to convert all of her patterns to rugs, but also because of the colors used, particularly the dark blue backgrounds. I'm thinking of taking out a monthly subscription for Appleton yarns from Traditional Stitches so I can play around with the colors before I commit myself.

Meanwhile I really should finish a few more things.
