Look what I have

I got these beads

but didn't have any beads to mutch them. They look even purpler, but way bluer than any amethyst stone I have. So off to the beadstore I went. The most expensive one was between stops I had today so I went there with the beads. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box under fluorescent lights to find them to be an almost aqua blue! The sales girl showed me some blue beads to go with them . "They change" she says (yeah sure, I think). These are magic beads! Alexandrine glass, or something like that. I sure am surprised that the artist didn't mantion that. The matching beads I got are about 8 x 9mm in a funny double Y facet. I have some this shape from Marjean. I'll have to look see if she has them too. Anyone who loves a gentle purples needs these. Tina

I have lots of Alexandrite beads in the store, Tina. It's one of my favorite colors. Just put "Alexandrite" in the search box and they all should come up. I'm not sure which ones you mean with the 'double Y facet' though.

The "double Y" is lopsided with the fat end at the bottom or top depending on which side you look from, and there is a sort of double y "ghost" (like in "ghost crystals").

Does your alexandrite change to aqua (sun), lilac blue (fluorescent) and lavendar (tungsten)?

This glass is Moretti pale lavender opaque and (most likely) Moretti dark lavender transparent - both glasses turn blue under fluorescents. It looks like the artist took her pictures under fluorescents as well.

I had no idea the glass changed under fluorescents. Cool.

Very pretty set too!

I don't know if she was fully aware of the color change since she didn't mention it. But the beads I got match it perfectly. It was a new glass next to some others the bead store had that also change colors. The others had a much more subtle color when not in direct light.

Oh, yes, the alexandrites do change - and they match the Moretti lavender glass just perfectly!

I can say with authority that the ones from Marjean do change because...I have some! In the gem cut crystal donuts. They're gorgeous.
