I pretty much did that with both of mine... trouble was, with #2, sometimes #1 needed major attention at the same time....

I also am accused of spoiling one of my brothers "totally rotten"-- he arrived when I was 10... the perfect age to "have" a baby (not bear one, mind you, just to HAVE a live dolly). I was forbidden to wake him up, but if he made one little squeak, he was out of his crib before his eyes could fully open... and I used to hang over him, staring at him and sending strong telepathic thought waves to "WAKE UP!!". He became a jarhead right after high school.... Now is in National Guard, looking at a strong possibility of going to Iraq (bomb squad). And is still a jarhead....

Me, too. They're tiny for such a short time, and soon she'll be clamoring to be let down to run around. Hugging and holding a baby is so natural and so loving. Think about it - this kid has been with you 24/7 for nine months. Once she's born, what is more logical: keep the the child from all she's ever known, or hold her close until she's ready to separate from you?

BTW, I'm still very demonstrative and hug kids at every opportunity. Even the toughest ones melt at the affection and ask for a "Kathy Hug." Looks funny when these six-footers are lined up for a hug from me. I don't know who gets more from it - me or them, or maybe it's a tie.

Obligatory Bead Reference: Against my better judgement, I ordered some clearance items from Fire Mountain. Never again. Three quarters of the stuff is going back, because almost nothing is as pictured or described. I had never known that Carnelian is supposed to be clear, or that dogbone shaped turquoise bears so much resemblance to chips. The worst though, was a carved white stone lotus pendant. I've never seen a pendant that so resembles a paperweight and weighs about four lbs. Must have been designed by a chiropractor.

On the good side, the rainbow lucite beads I bought are incredibly cool.

exactly! also, if they DO get the attention and holding they need when tiny, i'm convinced they're more "secure" later.

I think if people hugged each other more, we would have less conflict and war. I have a friend who is in California and when we email or talk, he always signs off by saying "consider yourself hugged." Always gives me a warm feeling, I can remember his hugs, even though I haven't seen him for a long time. I read a quotation once (sorry, I can't remember who wrote it, maybe someone else can), "Unless you are very famous, people won't remember what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel."
