OT: Anyone here? I'm up with a sick child.

I am longing to go to bed, but my 2-year-old keeps throwing up, so I feel like I have to be alert if she needs me. So far it's been every 30 minutes for the past two hours. Doesn't feel like she should have anything left in her stomach, but that's what I thought the last two times. Poor little thing. She doesn't really understand what's going on and is just miserable. If anyone is up, please send me some rcb vibes of the Strong Mommy variety. (Sorta hate to ask for vibes for something so temporary, but for the most part I'm just kinda bored -- too tired to bead or concentrate on anything really so I'm just killing time on RCB. Hey, that should be a song.)

Oh, and I actually have something on topic too. I work in a really nice office building in Northern Virginia (the "shopping bag building" for those of you in the area who know Tysons Corner) and I'm friendly with the concierge in the building. Between now and Christmas she is having vendors set up tables in the lobby once or twice a week so the tenants in the building can get some Christmas shopping done right in the building. I'm going to have a table on December 2. The other vendor that day will be a woman who sells handbags who *always* gets a huge crowd, so while her table is too crowded, I hope people will meander over to mine. :-) I'm really looking forward to it. I can't actually sit at the table, so I have to find someone to do that for me, which takes a lot of the fun out of it, IMO, but I'm just dying to know if people will actually buy my stuff so at least I'll be able to get a feel for that.

I was about to apologize for rambling, but you guys really don't care, do you? :-)

I'm sending you quick Mommy vibes. I remember when my girls were little and sick. I felt so bad for them. They never understood what was going on.

Hi Angela, hope your little one gets better soon and sleeps through the rest of the night. We did that a couple of weeks ago - no fun for anyone. Sending those vibes your way :)

Neato on the lobby sale - hope that goes well for you! I used to live just outside of Tysons Corner - in Vienna - but only for a short time - long enough to buy the house, paint it, catch major horrible poison oak from the yard, get married in it, and then we were gone. I think it was 3 months total. But very nice area :)

Hope the rest of your night goes better... I'm rambling too... too tired to drag my sorry butt up the stairs and go put it to bed, so I'm surfing RCB LOL!

I'm up with a sick kid too. And I'm not feeling so well myself, so am killing time on newsgroup, too. Hugs to you, and hope you get through the night with sanity intact!

Line your bed with lots and lots of towels, bring your little one to bed with you. Yes, dh has to sleep on the couch. I guarantee you'll sleep and wake as needed.

Hope your little one is better in the morning and good luck with your sale!

My best piece of Mommy Advice for those times is to make the bed with several sets of sheets. Think of it like a sandwich: mattress, plastic cover sheet, plastic cover, sheet, plastic cover, sheet. Top with a great big beach towel in case of a small amount of ickyness.

That way, when the kiddo barfs or gets the bed messy, all you have to do is pull off the sheet and plastic mattress pad and the bed is already made. You can even do it while holding the little one in one arm, which is a help. Trying to comfort a sick and messy child while re-making a bed was more than I was ever up to.

If the child is totally sicky and icky, you probably are, too. I used to get right in the shower while holding DD and washing us both off at the same time. She found the combination of being cuddled and the warm water to be very relaxing. Much of the time, I could get out of the shower and tuck her straight into bed. If she was so sick that we were dealing with multiple overnight barf sessions, I barely bothered to dress her. A diaper and tee shirt and that was about it. I fugured that if she was feeling that horrid, she really didn't want to be messed with, especially fussing with pajamas, blanket sleepers and the like.

Oh yes, we always kept popsicles in the freezer to make sure that the little one didn't get dehydrated. The popsicles can't be eaten too quickly, so it's less likely that it will come right back up again. Watered down Gatoraide (sports drink) is also good, but too strong for those little tummies unless it's diluted.

Hope that everything is so much better this morning,

I think Tysons Corner is technically Vienna. I work at a law firm that has

26 offices around the world, so we couldn't call our Northern Virginia office "Vienna" because when we list all the cities we have offices in, people would probably think we meant, ya know, *Vienna*. So we use "Tysons Corner." But the US Post office and FedEx have a heckuva time figuring us out. For some reason, even if a person uses the correct ZIP code, if they indicate the city is "Tysons Corner," the mail is sometimes undeliverable. Weird.

Oh, I hate that even more when both you AND the kid are sick. I remember the last time that happened. My four-year-old and I were both heaving in the bathroom and my husband comes in all groggy like, "What's going ON?" Hope you and your little one are feeling better today.

She finished getting sick around 2:30 but slept fitfully the rest of the night. DH stayed home with her today, let me sleep for two hours this morning and head into work late. She has a fever but is at least able to keep water down so we're on the mend. Oh and she's sleeping like a *rock* right now. Thanks again, Kandice, and everyone, for the good vibes.
