OT: FYI...latest from me

I just thought I should let everyone know that I was laid off today from my company. My company was sold to a competitor earlier this month and staff reduction was expected. My department (Research & Development) was supposed to emerge relatively unscathed, but unfortunately that is not going to be the case. So, after a good run of 7 1/2 (+) years, I'm own my own for a while.

Send some good thoughts my way...Jon and I are working on plans for the near future and will make my severance package last as long as it can. On the up side, you might actually hear from me more often, or at least until I get the job thing taken care of.

Until then...buy lots of web site hosting and design from Jon (or at least refer people our way). And if you call for tech support, most likely you'll get to talk to me. 8-)

Barbara -- I know this one WELL. I got laid off, and moved across the country in search of a job. I am grateful, every minute, that I have had employment ever since.

As the Chinese say, may this turn into an opportunity for you!!!!!

You know I wish you, and Jon, all the best. And MUCH LOVE!!!

Barbara, So sorry to hear of your job woes. But, you are so intelligent and upbeat, I'm sure you will find another job quickly. And, in the meantime, you'll have some extra time to bead for the holidays!!

second that, was the last thing I expected.

actually, it depends on where you are.

We're running 2% unemployment here and places being closed at times for lack of staff (seen at Taco Bell: our drive through is open but we had to close the dining room for lack of staff)

- and no, it isn't just the low qualification jobs. There are no electronics technicians here, period, there's a shortage of nurses (isn't everywhere?), math and science teachers (and teachers in general), construction workers.

same here, but in my case 2007 is starting to look like 2006 (not done with the last array controller software and sound like getting another one next year)

Thanks for the support guys - I do appreciate it.

I'm actually doing pretty well with this, now that the shock has worn off. The current plan is to see how we can do with my working freelance and contract work, and put all the severance into an investment account for future needs.
