Mostly OT: Best Laid Plans and all that

Well Damn! Here we are making plans for that new house, and furniture, and all those goodies, and we've had some temporary bad news. Mike came home eeeearly yesterday and gave me the grim news that his position at the hospital has been "phased out." Now, how you phase out a p.r.n. (come in as needed) position is beyond us, but there it is. He was making great money, working an average of 24 hours a week which was just about right.

He's not so much freaked as annoyed, since we were talking about him retiring AFTER we got the mortgage and moved into the new house anyway. The timing just sucks in terms of securing the mortgage and our budgeting. But we talked to the mortgage folks yesterday and we should still be fine (thanks to his social security and Navy retirement pay).

So, we're taking a few days to regroup, he's going to be calling some of his other nuclear medicine contacts and hopefully finding something a) part time and b) closer to home (he had a 50-mile-a-day commute).

In the meantime, look for lots more beads from me.

For heaven's sake, couldn't they have "phased him out" a couple of months from now? When everything was secured? Bah. I hope this ends up not screwing anything up.
