OT: Good Dr. News

DH finally got in touch with the pain management doc today. They talked about the other doctor I was considering seeing and I feel confident in my current doc's abilities again. They have me scheduled for another procedure on November 5th for additional botox injections in a very high dose. They will try to get me in sooner if there are any cancellations on his schedule. I'm at least more comfortable again knowing that DH talked to him while I was out and things were resolved. This is turning into a good day.

I'm doing the happy dance. I've been kinda down with pain a lot lately. Even though it's bad there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Dan is so sweet to take care of everything. I was asleep when the doc called and never woke up until right before I had to leave to see my other doc.

Wishing you pain free days, {{{Starlia}}}. Especially until you can get in to see the doc for your stated botox treatments.

And...err... if you don't mind me asking... (you don't have to answer on the group if you don't want to)... exactly how does Botox stop your pain? I thought Botox injections took away wrinkles?? And do you end up looking younger after you get them?! :D

Actually it's a very good question and one that I don't mind being on the newsgroup. First, the shots hurt like Hades for days. Yes Botox is used for wrinkles and such and I bet the right side of my head doesn't get wrinkles like my left side will. LOL

Botox actually numbs the area where it is injected. They start at the right side top of my head and work their way down along a line to the base of my head with small injections. It helps in two ways: 1. blocking pain, and

  1. actually relaxing the muscles and nerves. The relaxing the muscles and nerves is where Botox is used for wrinkles. By relaxing the skin/muscles it appears to remove the wrinkles...or so I'm told. I would never do that to myself on purpose. The injection sites are tender for a couple of weeks.

Now the thing I hate about the shots is that my right eye is droopy for months. My muscles on the right side of my forehead don't work and it's just weird. It's nothing serious and I know I shouldn't worry about my looks when I'm pain free, but I do. I've moved past it the last injection though. I can always tell when it isn't working because I can move my eyebrow up and down. If that's working then the shot isn't.

I set up the initial appointment and they were out of the office. I don't know what happened. I left a message and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

If you do have it done - give a report please. My massage person sort of suggested I have it done for my headaches, so I'm curious.

I definitely will. I see it as it can't hurt to try. I've about given up on anything other than that dreaded Botox shot which isn't bad as long as it works. The recovery time is minimal and I feel almost human when it works correctly.

I finally got to talk to the doctor yesterday afternoon. I was out doing something for a dear friend of mine (otherwise I would have stayed in bed) and stopped by his office. I found out that my pain management doc gave seminars to the other doc we were considering. The other doc has not done any fellowships, he has only gone to seminars. My doctor is one of the best skilled in the country and has given many of those seminars. Therefore I'm sticking with the doc I like. Besides his handsome little brother is always so nice to me and wears that Marine uniform with such pride.

The first time I met little brother was around 5:30 in the evening. Little brother opened the door to the office in full dress uniform and offered his arm to lead me in to see his brother. God I drooled all over myself.

Jeez, I don't think I'd be able to talk for a while...I'm so impressed that you drooled all over yourself and not all over HIM!!

I wouldn't dare mess up that uniform.

In the Army I only dated Marines. Everyone thought that was weird until they saw them in uniform.

Hehehe...I think DH is a reincarnated Marine. He just wasn't able to go into the military in this lifetime because of a bum knee.
