OT: Good Dr. News

Be glad. I've seen more mental and emotional damage done through Marine training than in any other branch. I think they are not as bad but they used to be, but I hear Marine vet and run in the other direction. They are fine soldiers, but damn, they and their families pay an awful price.

if there is any tough job anywhere that needs to be done, i have complete faith in the US Marines.

that said, i'm not sure i could be married to one, and yes, their families DO pay a price.

Yes to both. My dad was in Korean and the Chosin Reservoir, my older brother was in Vietnam.

My father's dead now but my brother shows many, many of the results of that conflict. Four wives later....

I'm SOOO sorry for your brother, Su! The Vietnam War really helped shaped who I am today - it made a huge impact on me, and changed the lives of so many people. A friend of mine's brother was the last *official* casualty of that conflict - what a dubious honor. I still have the bracelet I wore until *my* soldier who had been MIA was a confirmed POW and then came home. Please know that your brother has my utmost respect - sadly most Vietnam vets were unsung heroes, either completely ignored or treated with disdain, something I consider a huge national travesty.

I'm glad you understand that my feelings, my anger, is at the Marine Corps, and not at the Marines. My anger is on behalf of the individuals who served, and their families.

yes, i understand that, Tina. unfortunately, for me, i often seen both sides. i understand *why* the Marine Corps does things the way they do. to this day, i'm still grateful for the things they do AND very happy Jamie changed her mind and went Navy instead of Marines.

There's a reason sailors refer to their little brothers in green as "jarheads".... And it's not just the haircuts. Kaytee "Simplexities" on

**grin** i haven't heard that one in years. but to get the results they do, some of that is necessary.

and, to be honest, most of the ones you and i have probably met are not very high up the ladder . . . and the lower ranks of many services have a lot in common.

I met more than a few jarhead "zeros" who were... jarheads. About the only Marine rank that doesn't seem over-populated with jarheads is Sgt Major-- and they're few and far between.

I was a Navy Corpsman.... FMF was a threat to ensure good behavior amongst my male colleagues. And even though low rankers in other services do have a lot in common, the "jarines" seem to encourage certain ungracious and/or anti-social characteristics.

By the way, there's a test you take before you can enlist-- Air Force has/had the highest percentile cut-off-- I think it was 40th percentile when I tested, Navy had a cut-off of 20th percentile, Marines and Army of 15th; women in all services had to have a 60th or better. For the Navy, the "Cat. 4s" (the lowest test scores) got to be bosunmates and other "deck apes", and the Army is so big, that they have plenty of similar positions, but what can a small service like the Marines do with such? Besides keep them around to provide Corpsmen with something to practice medicine on.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on
