OT: Horror Vacation Update

I take back all my gloating. I take back all of my gloating, forever. P/T D has totally thrown in the towel, and is flying home tomorrow morning. DD is fine and is doing things, but P/T D has decided she's so homesick that she couldn't possibly stay another minute in this strange place. (Even though she's stayed there with us at the condo many times before)

Even worse, P/T D's mom, who is getting some her first no-kid time in years, had planned a weekend getaway with her boyfriend. So, homesick or not, she will be here with me this weekend.

Poor Bob. I think this qualifies as the Worst Birthday Ever. Did I mention it's his 42nd birthday? Ouch.

Carolina Beach, NC. It's a great beach town, but only known to the locals. It's not totally commercialized, and it's about an hour to Myrtle Beach, if they want honky-tonk.

could P/TD be reacting to knowing her mother had plans? even subconsciously? that really sounds odd.

I think that may be it. Too bad she doesn't know that Mom is going anyway. P/T D will be either staying with me or her grandmother. I talked her Mom into not letting P/T D spoil her plans - that poor woman has so much on her plate, and deserves a little fun of her own.

I also think that P/T D never dreamed that Bob would take her at her word. Last night, they were arguing over her lack of interest/participation in everything, and she said, "I hate you, you're worse than my father. I want to go home."

(ouch, especially considering that her father was found guilty of beating this kid until she had broken bones. Bob was devastated. He'd never dream of laying a finger on a child. Any child.)

Bob said that it was too bad she felt that way, and left her alone. This morning, he told her that she would be home tomorrow afternoon. He says that they'll talk everything through tomorrow afternoon, while he's driving her the two hours to the airport. He's still really hurt, but she's a kid, and he understands that sometimes kids say the meanest things. Even so, she does have to learn that mean actions and words have consequences.

Definitely not the best birthday he's ever had.

ah, yes. push and see how far you can get away with. especially since Kathy wasn't there.

you know . . . she may very well REALLY regret pushing it that far and now doesn't know how to back down.

extra ***HUGS*** for Bob!
