OT: Oh. So THAT'S why I've been such a cranky ho!

I've been in such a pissy mood all week, and all of a sudden it all makes SENSE. I got my period. First time in a year! Joy of joys or something.

Well, so much for lactational amenorrhea.

I'm 47 and have been chemically peri-menopausal for almost 3 years. I get my menses about 3 or 4 times a year but suffer cramps monthly. My doc said that they don't consider one in proper menopause until one has skipped their period for a year. I tell you, I don't miss it for a New York second and wish it was just done too!

vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from "Christina Peterson" :

]Isn't 54 too old for ]that shit?

unfortunately, no. and trust me, just because the periods themselves are gone doesn't mean the PMS is also gone.

I would guess, however, that if a woman had a complete hysterectomy that the cycles would be very unnoticible, if not disappear altogether. I"m not saying that anyone should do that, but I'm hoping that I don't get PMS after mine next summer.

Yes, I know it's entirely possible to go 5-6 months and then get a reprise. I won't toss the stuff. Just pray for the end of a function I never used and never really needed.

I wish we could turn our child-bearing equipment on by choice, and only when we actually wanted and were prepared for bearing children ... what a drastic change that would make in family life...

the cycles depend on the hormones. not whether or not you have a uterus.

Watch out... don't throw out the "supplies".... If you can go a year without using any, then you can start thinking about "golden toenails".... Kaytee "Simplexities" on

It depends more on the ovaries, from what I've been studying...and since i'll have those removed, i put two and two together and got zero PMS..LOL

And I'm starting my third month with no period ... and since there's no way I could be pregnant, it must mean I've slipped from peri-menopausal into truly menopausal.>>>>>

Don't count on it..... LOL I just went from May to August - and got a surprise this morning..... damn....

yay, I'm dancing from joy.

Actually, I feel like I just dodged a bullet, because Mox and I have been counting on the fact that full-time on-demand round-the-clock breastfeeding provides better birth control than the Pill for *most* women, for an average of four months.

Obviously, I ovulated about two weeks ago. That means that we are LUCKY to not be looking number four in the face!

And now we better get a jump on some more reliable birth control.

I didn't realize she had slacked off of night nursing so much, but in retrospect that's exactly what happened. I don't mind waking up to nurse; we co-sleep, so it's just a matter of rolling over and unsnapping the porthole on my nursing bra. I'd SO much rather be waking up 3 times a night than this! Grrrrr.

And sadly, I turn into a petulant, contrary bitch right before my period.

Oh man menopause will be a happy, happy time for me. What a blessing!

???? Your menopause is scheduled for summer 2004? Is there a waiting list for that?

Oh, now I get it! Duh me! (And yeah, in today's medical system, I guess there probably *IS* a waiting list for that...)
