I strongly recommend you print out - read and have WITH YOU a copy of the FAMILY LEAVE ACT which REQUIRES employers to allow employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid absence for family care.... including "to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition"

And you have to have been at the job for more than one year...I've had to deal with this issue before, twice.

Not only did I not get fired, I got praised for my "excellent job done."
