OT Wasted my time, money and effort

Remember About 4 weeks ago I said a woman , ( I cannot say Lady) from USA emailed me after seeing my tassel on Barbara Elbe's website.

She asked if I would make her a tassel. She wanted one to represent Fall colours then maybe two for Spring

Tassel duly made and pictures sent to her. No reply. Followed up by two emails to her. Then a reply asking cost of tassel and shipping and how to pay money.

Today a reply saying that she thought the price to steep and that she could not be bothered with all the details of sending the money.

I did not think 110dollars to much for a unique tassel embellish with S crystals.

Result no sale and a tassel left hanging in my house.

So sorry to hear that happened to you Shirley. Things like this is one reason I just don't do commissions anymore (and if I did, it is price agreed and 50 percent deposit up front, which is enough to scare most away!)

The only consolations are that firstly - would you want one of your lovely tassels living with her anyway? And maybe, with Christmas coming up, you can use it as a gift for someone special?

Well it is certainly a lesson learned. No I would not want my tassel to grace her front door.

I could always use as bargaining power when I want to swap for something from my beady friends. There are several ideas in mind. Shirley

I've had things like that happen to me many a time. people ask for custom work, expecting it to be dirt cheap, and then after you put in the time and effort they back out on it because they want to pay $20 for something that cost $70 in materials alone.

A lot of my custom work that people have decided they don't want to buy has ended up finding homes, though. But I'm wary of doing custom pieces now, and try to give people a price quote up front (a quote that is subject to change, which I also tell them).

Shirley - what a bummer - but I think quite a few of us have been there - done that, got the t-shirt. Mine was the boss - who loved a particular necklace I wore -- and wanted one for his wife -- so I made one -- and offered it to them at a discount price ($65 - on a $110 necklace)... he AND SHE both "ohhhed" over the necklace when I brought it to their house (a holiday open house, as agreed with him).... but he blanced and said $65, was more than he "expected to pay." Needless to say - it went home with me that night....

Lesson learned - QUOTE PRICE BEFORE MAKING COMMISSION, and get an agreement and a deposit.

Perhaps you can try selling them on Ebay to recoup some of your expenses.

I would rather keep it than sell at a loss. I would hate to see it go for a fraction of its cost without all the hours work put in it. After all it is unique, not another like it.. I will try and get a picture put up of it. Shirley

I'm so sorry, Shirley, that the woman treated you that badly. No, make it that horribly.

She doesn't know what she's missing!

How rude! I am stuneed that she didn't ask for a quote in advance, and that she would be so casual about wasting your time like that.

I bet the tassel is absolutely lovely, though.
