PISSED OFF!!!!

As most of you know, there are no local LBS near me. So I look forward for months to the bead shows that come into my area. Yesterday I drove FIFTY miles

- all highway miles - to a bead show that was advertised in New Carrollton, Maryland, only to find out it was cancelled. The hotel didn't cancel, the vendors did. I suspect they either found out they had double booked and were supposed to be at Beadfest in Ft. Washington, PA (about 3 hours from me), or else Beadfest just enticed them away. I don't know, but I also don't know why it wasn't advertised. Every other bead show in the country puts an ad up in RCB, why couldn't they have also put an ad up to say they had cancelled???

I spent 3 hours in the car, drove 100 miles (including about 20 around the Washington beltway - stop and go) for NOTHING! And then, I had all that bead money burning a hole in my pocket, so I went shopping for clothes and probably did more damage there than I would have at the bead show.

Next weekend there's a bead show in Newark, DE, where the grandkids live. So I will get beads and gkids in one day. So I just have to be patient (not my strong suit). Sigh.

Ok, I'm ranted out. Thanks for listening.

Oh, hell, I don't blame you! If they advertised their show here, they should have advertised that they had cancelled here too. Ick!

Hhhmmmm, maybe it was cancelled because of the bead show in Vienna, VA. To bad you didn't know about that one. I went today and picked up some stick pearls, a big amber bead, findings, and some silver soldering equipment. Patti Walton was there.

Better to be pissed off than pissed on. (Sorry).

Having spent time in Vienna, VA with AT&T, I know what a PITA the driving is...although compared with driving here in Boston...a snap.

Thankfully you'll have your beads and your grandkids at the same time.

I was at the show in Vienna today too. I heard some people talking about how last year the New Carrollton show was scheduled the same weekend as the one in Vienna, but this year they (New Carrollton show folks) got smart and switched the date. So sorry for you, Cheri!

I only bought a few things today. Some dichroic glass squares ("discontinued colors," so a little cheaper than they might have been) from Sage Art, a few little glass beads (including a couple orange and black for some Haloween earrings) from Margaret Saukel, and some *gorgeous* ceramic beads from Splendid Loon Studio. I'm amazed I didn't buy more of the ceramics they way those babies were yelling at me to take them home. :-)

Yes, I'm in Alexandria. I think we had an exchange about Star's Beads a while back. Did you ever get there? I'm looking right at a little card I picked up today that says the show in New Carrollton will be held November 8 (10am-5pm) and 9 (11am-5pm). Maybe those of us in this area should get together there?

Yes I did! I went in early Sept when DD was here from San Diego. I was very impressed, she has a lot of great stuff in there! I'd love to meet you in New C that day. That would be great fun! Cheri (Bubbee to Emily and Nathan)

It would have pissed me off too! I don't blame you for the way you feel. That's a lot of miles and I HATE driving.

Excellent. Let's touch base later in the month and come up with a plan. :-)

I'm sure all of you in the area know who the promoter is/was, but perhaps you could share the name so when they come to our locality, others can be aware of them.

I didn't include their name in my original post, b/c I wasn't sure if posting their name would be breaking any newsgroup etiquette, but since you asked ....The promoter is International Gem & Jewelry Show, Inc. (aka: InterGem)

Wow. They been holding shows here in the St. Louis area for years (at least 10 that I know of...........). Never a cancellation. Of course, never that great an amount of dealers, either. St. Louis is too small of a market for most of their dealers......... Barbara Dream Master
