I hear that anything over 50 visits to Lucy-land makes you "insane" according to psychiatric standards. Wonder what over 500 visits makes you? Barbara Dream Master

I dunno, but I'm still pissed over all the flashbacks I've been cheated out of. None. Nada. Sheesh.

I was never brave enough to try LSD. Too many friends got too screwed up on it. I was just a happy stoner and took care of all the radicals when they were messed up. Except for my "enlightenment"...thanks to a few experiments with coke I got diagnosed with ADD. Truly changed my life (in a better way).

Very interesting... d'you mean that the stimulant had a focusing effect on your attention, and that clued you in to the fact that you were ADD?

I guided many a stoner thru a "bad" trip and out the other side. They always ended up back in a groovy place (can't think of a word that better fills the bill) where they could expand their beauty horizons. I also knew a few that got messed up and stayed that way because there was nobody around who could help them when things went bad. Which brings to mind poor Bob F. who was last seen with one half of his head and facial hair (eyebrow, mustache) shaved off. The other side of his body painted red, totally naked, taking a crap in his hat in the middle of the driveway......... (circa 1968) Barbara Dream Master

effect on your attention, and that clued you in to the fact that you were ADD?<

Not me, exactly, but my guy at the time. His younger sister had ADD and he saw a lot of similarities between our behaviors. When I fessed up to him about getting some coke to get through finals, the lightbulb went off. See, coke doesn't *stimulate* me. I get very calm and focused but not in a hyper way. I get a smaller but similar "benefit" from any of the allergy meds with pseudoephedrine. It's just enough of a nudge to keep me on task on a tricky day (and I can breathe, too!).

There have been days, recently, when I've thought very hard about going back on some kind of meds. Sometimes I get so unravelled and I know it. But I'm not overly fond of the side effects, and now with my blood pressure inching upwards I'm trying my best to just rely on my behavior management tricks. Getting to hyperfocus at the torch is a wonderful indulgence, and a sort of mental "maintenance."

I feel the same thing about the meds. I only use them if I'm having a very off day. However, I do notice an extreme difference when I do take them. It sucks, but it's the truth.

I get the same effects from allergy meds and dr. pepper. I think almost anyone with ADD has some type of different chemistry. Most meds won't knock me out like benedryle and those types. Just feel better.

Yup. That's what I figured. Counter-intuitive, but interesting.

vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from Barbara Otterson :

] Definitely a good thing.

my brother explained it to my mother very well.

"Mom, we could have GOTTEN anything under the sun we wanted. but we KNEW that some day, at some point, we would end up standing in front of Dad and have to explain ourselves. it was never worth it."

Always glad to hear about something that *works* for people who have a hard time functioning in their usual state...

I hope this helps *you* by helping him relate to you (and the rest of the world) on better terms.
