Thanks Margie, and you are right--I use red pepper and a chopped jalapeno too...and ginger and lime...Lemme see if I stored the recipe in here. Found it!! I make this when anybody is ill and feeze some for when I'm sick and don't feel like the bother of making it.

Three Mothers Chicken Soup Taken from Jewish, Chinese and EarthMother recipes, this soup is good for all congestive nose/chest problems, and will help clear sinuses and get rid of colds or flu. Breath the steam while it cooks or when served. You can also add other veggies, rice, or barley. Use 2 beaten eggs dribbled into the soup for an EggDrop Soup Variation.

Broth/Stock:

1pkg. Chicken parts ½ bulb (not 1/2 clove) garlic, peeled and chopped 1 t. Curry powder ½ t. Cajun spices mix ¼ t. Red pepper flakes 1 t. Chinese mustard 1 t. Horseradish ½-1 T. Salt

Wash chicken parts but leave skin on., place in large soup pot and cover with water. Bring to slow boil, add next 7 ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes, skim off any foam and some of the fat.. Continue to simmer for 1-2 hours. Remove chicken, and allow to cool slightly, then remove skin and bones. Shred or chop some of the meat and return to the soup stock, the rest can be used in chicken salad or stir fry.

Soup: To the chicken stock with meat add:

1 chopped onion ½ bulb garlic, peeled and chopped 1-2 chopped or grated carrots 1-2 stalks celery, chopped jalapeno or habenero peppers, chopped or sliced (you can also add pepper sauces instead of the habanero) basil (fresh or dried) sage (fresh or dried) fresh ginger, peeled and chopped/grated black pepper

Season to taste with the basil, sage and black pepper, add more salt if needed. Skim off more fat, but do not remove it all. Simmer for 1-2 hours. Add more water as needed to keep from boiling away or becoming too concentrated. During the last half hour, mix flour and water to a thin paste in a cup, add lime juice, and add this to the soup to thicken it slightly

1 C water 2-3 T. flour 1-2 limes, juiced

it is...I left the pot of it unwatched a while, and my older son and his friends actually helped themselves to several bowls each. When teenage boys eat healthy stuff willingly, you KNOW its good!! Sarajane
