Re: OT Just how long should this bloody ankle take to heal?!!

It took a few years for the nerve-damage symptoms associated with a bad break of my arm to gradually disappear. The bone healed in a much shorter time. Hang in there.

I seem to remember one or two of you have also broken an ankle (Tina?). The >bones have knitted, the scars are diminishing. I had a much worse break than you did, almost 20 years ago, and my ankle hurts all the time. It's also a pretty good weather predictor.

Hi Marissa,

My ankle problems are from the difference in COE s in metal and bone. Bone and steel plate and screws expand at different rates, mostly from change of barometric pressure. But I've had no trouble with nerve damage there. Since it's been less than a year, I think you should still anticipate it will heal up fine, but do check with the doctor, since it's taking longer than usual.

It seems I need a better shoe. I've been wearing Diana Ferrari Super Softs with a low heel, but it's just not enough support. I need to elevate, ice and rest it,then some physiotherapy and I need a new pair of shoes, like Kumffs or Dr Scholl walking shoes. Thank god I don't care to much about what I put on my feet, they are so wide I've always been limited any way. I saw a very nice pair of Dr Scholl shoes in a mag yesterday, the model was wearing them with a business suit. I'll get some of those. Thanks for your caring words sweet heart.

Oh my, I hope that doesn't, happen to me. I've got a bloody great screw on the inside ankle, two plates and 8 short screws on the outside. Just thinking about those actually makes my stomach kind of squiggy. I'd hate to think of anyone having anything worse. I had quite a lot of pain when the weather turned cold, though it didn't persist, until this latest round of problems.

That's interesting, Tina, about the changes in pressure. Ours fluctuates a lot due to cyclonic activity in the North. I'll moniter it and see if the ankle is affected. I geuss meantime I'll just have to wait it out.

That's exactly what it is, although not from any one particular injury. It's from wearing a shoe with a heel (albeit a small one) too soon. I am going out tomorrow to buy some new ones and mean time have to elevate and ice it.

I am so glad there is a practical solution for this, and one that is fairly close at hand.

All my hardware had to come out because my body rejected it. I had to wear a brace until about five years ago when I grew enough bone to do without the brace. But I can never wear any kind of heels again, and I'm most comfortable in ankle boots. (My ankle broke in nine places in three inches.)

I guess I should be thankful that when that horse threw me in Costa Rica I didn't do more damage to my ankle than I did! I just ripped up all the tendons and muscles. Six weeks later and I still hurt. But nothing broke. Barbara Dream Master
