S-Clasps over Toggles

I'm looking at the catalog, it's not very helpful. International prepaid orders include postage, insurance and $3.50 handling fee. Well duh.

Direct line for all other countries (that would be the UK) from 7 AM to 5 PM MT time, Monday through Friday is 505.839.3011. That doesn't seem like a toll-free number to me.

Probably because they *are* that big. Rio's catalog must have well over 200,000 items -- and the prices on some of them may fluctuate weekly. (Most notably, on things like gold and silver findings, which are dependent on the current market price of those materials.) The amount of work required to keep such a website up to date would be prohibitive.

Do you know anyone who works in a jewelry store -- preferably an independent rather than a chain? You might ask them if they order from Rio, and how the shipping costs run.

Once it's all up though, you could change the price with the click of a mouse. So as I understand, the prices in their catalouge aren't much to go by anyway? So you never know how much your order will cost? Seems to me like it would be better to be able to price thigs in advance but not necersarily ge thing exact things I want.

I don't, but I doubt jewellers over here would order from a US company. Or would they?

Rio Grande is in my neck of the woods. Find out how much it would cost postage wise

and maybe we can work something out.

Sure, on a single item. Wanna do that for 20,000 or more items? Every week?

The prices don't change terribly much. For example, something that's priced at $2.69 in the catalog may actually be $2.76 when I place my order... or it might be $2.53. And things like tools and display/packaging don't change -- but most of what I order from them *is* the changeable stuff, so I notice.

I can't say for sure, but I do know that Rio is the 500-pound gorilla in the field of jewelry supplies for small shops, so they might.

Thanks for the offer, but I think it'll be a looooooooong time before I can afford anything from them really. I have a relative over there so I could ask them really. Hmmmm. I think I'll try and rootle out some more suppliers over here. They must be about.

Charlie --

On this group, there are a few people from England. They may be able to either help you with supplier in England, or they may be able to answer your questions about overseas (who will ship for cheapest):

It looks like no one has posted for a bit, but believe me, they are there! If you look, there are posts recently. I know that there are at least 3 people on there from England. You might even be able to get together a small group of people who can do the shipping all to one person, then divide it out and ship?

As far as doing pricing, there *should* be a formula that they can input the silver/gold price, and it would show the pricing for that day.

The only problem with it (and I would go with the "stable" pricing i.e. catalog pricing for this reason) is that some places go by when you place your order, and some go by when your order ships.

When I placed the bulk buy order for ForeignSource, they priced the buy on the day that it shipped (like 4 days after I sent the order by email). If it had gone out 2 days before, I think we would have saved like 2 cents per ounce (?).

Look at Indian Jeweler's Supply web site. They have the whole catalog in Adobe format. Barbara Dream Master
