]Hmmm. Moxley is a web commerce developer, and his information is that it ]does no such thing. He says it has NO effect on anything besides the ]pop-up that says your information is not secure.

okay. david is also. david said the "pop-up" stopper and the actual secure interface [htmls] are two different things. it's the encryption part that is important. note: there is NO way anyone can prevent misuse of information once it has been given to a store. what the encryption does is prevent it from being "trapped" by a third party between you and the secure server.

But the secure certificate doesn't have anything to do with the encryption... it's just the pop-up stopper. You're talking about a secure interface, which you can have with or without the $70 certificate. I'm talking about the secure certificate, which you can purchase with or *without* a secure interface.

That's what I think! It's extortion, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it's legal!

I wasn't talking about a security certificate - I was talking about a secure server for processing credit card info. :) I don't have a security certificate for my website, because my shopping cart software is housed on mals-e.com's secure server site, so I don't need to have one. :) If this site requires you to register with credit card information, they need to have a secure server to process that info. I don't really trust the security certificate thing either - it's just a play - like you said. :)

Oh, OK! I get it, sorry!

Though I did learn, the other day, that you can't tell whether they're using a secure server if they use frames! Wierd.
