stretching silk cord

I think I took on too much. I am trying to make a pearl necklace for my daughter for Christmas with knotted silk cord between the beads.

I read that it is important to stretch silk cord for 24 hours before using it, like attaching scissors to a hank of it to hang. I tried it and tangled some perfectly good cord (still in a hopeless tangle)... a warning! I took the other card I had and would it into a tight ball (like I would do with knitting wool)... looking for feedback... is this just as good or is there another way? How do I know if it's really stretched or not?

I don't think a tight ball will be quite the same as a weight, sorry.

I tie the ends of the silk cord to two ceramic mugs -- one on each end. I put a towel over the top of a door, and hang the cord over that. I've never had a problem with tangling.

It's really stretched, IMO, if you leave it there for 24 hours.

Are you trying to stretch out the entire hank at once? If so, don't bother. The stretch doesn't 'keep'. Just stretch out what you need for this project.

Thank you for both tips, the mug tip and the measuring tip.... it was very helpful! Grace
