Tooting my own horn

I don't usually do this, but I've reached a milestone on the Kokoshnik, and I had to share.

I've finished the main beaded veil, and it is gorgeous. I made a netting of small freshwater pearls, gold Delicas and gold fumed ivory seed beads to hang from the sides and back of the hat. I haven't done an awful lot of netting in the past, and I was concerned that it wasn't going to come out well.

"Coming out well" turned out to be a severe understatement -- the netting is perfect and for once, I don't want to rip out the whole piece and start over. (I do that whenever I see mistakes) When I finished this morning and took the netting off the bulletin board I've been using to keep it pinned in place, DD immediately grabbed it.

For a half a minute, DD tried to convince me that the best use for the netting was for her to wear it to school. Uh, I don't think so. Not even her generous offer to "let me bobby pin it to her hair" swayed me, meanie that I am.

This afternoon, I'll start on the small piece of netting that goes across the forehead, which should take a lot less time. I'm still waiting for the buckram hat frame to arrive, so I haven't even begun the embroidery for the front. Still, this is a major piece done, and I'm very happy. Bob stopped at the beauty supply store and bought me a wig head to work with (that won't be the final display, but I needed something I could pin in place while working).

Sorry, no pictures. I'll take a slew of them when the piece is done, but I don't like to share partially finished work, because it's not perfect.

Kathy,

I know that if you like it, it's going to be spectacular. I can't wait to see work in progress images.

I'm so excited to see pics of this when it's done! Considering your other work, if you call it "perfect" it would probably be better described as "sublime".
