Weird past week

For the past week, I've been barely skimming the newsgroup. Now I've got over 500 messages to catch up on .

Last Monday, hubby and I came home to the following message on the answering machine - "This message is for Steve...calling from Northwestern Memorial Hospital about your father, who was admitted yesterday..." We both go "Yikes!" That was followed by a message from my MIL "Steve, call me. It's about your dad. It's important." Double-YIKES! (He's okay now, still in the hospital.)

So...FIL had a heart attack last Sunday, got himself to the hospital, was in stable condition. A stent had been inserted, and it was expected that he'd be going home in a couple of days. He was feisty, but in good spirits. On Tuesday, he had a fever and was complaining of a pain in his side; appendicitis suspected and confirmed and Wednesday morning, an emergency appendectomy was performed.

Wednesday night, he decided he was going home and tried to get out of bed; ended up in restraints and after much struggling with the nurses, he had internal bleeding and by Thursday morning was in critical condition, with a breathing tube. He was kept heavily sedated and restrained for two days.

On the weekend, he was back to stable condition, moved out of ICU into a regular room, fully cognizant again, and doesn't remember anything since going into the operating room for the appendectomy. It's expected that he'll be going home in a couple of days.

Yeah...it's been a loooong week.

Anyway, Happy Belated Birthdays to Kathy N-V and Barbara. Strong positive healing vibes to Shirley and Cheri2. Hugs to Sooz for Menopause Madness; and if I skipped anybody, my apologies. Gotta get back up to speed :)

Hugs, Carla

I know how you feel - it's hard to catch up when things happen at home and you don't get as much computer time. I'm so sorry to hear about your father in law - I hope he is better soon!

OH MY GOSH I guess it certainly has.....!

Hope he is on the mend soon - and family life settles back to normal....

I think you can delete the 500 unread messages - nothing critical happened recently ...

That's probably a blessing! Boy, I felt awful just reading about everything that had happened to him. Glad he'll be going home soon!

I guess vibes *do* work :)

Thanks all for the good wishes/vibes/prayers, etc. I just spoke with hubby, who went by the hospital this evening. FIL is up, under his own steam, eating solid food, and ready to get back to real life. He lives in one of those "assisted living" apartment buildings for senior citizens and he's the youngest one there (at 75!). One of his biggest worries right now is, who's taking care of the "old" folks while he's been out of commission :)

He'll probably be sent home tomorrow or Thursday and the doctors advise that someone stay with him for the first 48 hours, just as a precaution. Fortunately, the entire family all live within minutes of each other, and everyone is ready to pitch in.

Again, thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts :)

Cheers, Carla

Heh. The funny thing is, while everyone lives so close, they almost never see each other. But when they do, it all picks up right where they left off, like there was never a break :) Lots of love, but not much in common as far as every day stuff goes. And everyone responds when needed.

Yeah, I think my in-laws are pretty neat, overall :)

Cheers, Carla
