first project with new toy(brotherult2003d)

I finally got a chance to sew out the first designs on the machine. I was surprised at how loud the carriage is. I am going to try a few more designs and may take it in to have it adjusted. I just took it out of the box and went with the flow. It took a while for me to understand everything I had to do, but after I got the hang of it. It was really quite easy. I think the more I use it, it will become second nature.

I will find out about my interview that I took today by Monday. If I do not get a call on Monday, I know I didn't get the job. Then I get the "Dear John" letter in the mail a day or so after that.

Have you oiled the bobbin area? That may be the reason for the noise. I am not familiar with the ULT but it should say in the manual about oiling. On my Bernina I put a drop of oil on the race every other bobbin change and I clean the area of lint. Hums right along. This is so much fun. By the way, what type of job are you going for?

It does not say anything about oiling in the maintenance section. All it talks about in the book is cleaning out the race and shuttle of lint.

HI Sassy - give it a little time - the carriage (embroidery unit) on the Brothers machines has been noiser than most other brands since the first one (ULT2001) came out - mine is nicknamed "Thumper," it's going on 3 years old and "thumps" like a champ. Unless you are noticing un-acceptible results, give it a little time.

What state do you live in? Teaching jobs are not so easy to get these days. Alot of tech people that lost their jobs went back to teaching. I hope you get what you want! Nana

Yes, Unless you are having problems with it snipping thread or tangles or whatever, let it wear in for at least a few months and then take it in for a cleaning / tuneup

The Brother is fairly noisy. Many have mentioned this before but it is all metal mechanism noises. No squeeks or squawks.

Did you put the little black clip that came in the toolcase on the feed dog area??? Mine thumped and banged until I did-------makes it a LOT quieter......I have a 2002D.

for his b-day. I put the words..........."Who needs Santa, we have Grandpa" and then put stick figures with all the grandchildren's names under each of the figures. I put all of the figures in a different color. I tried out doing a towel and I am not real thrilled with the results. I will have to work on that. I can not believe the speed that this machine goes! The designs and words for the sweatshirt were easy. I had all of that done in about 90 minutes. Just wait until you get started. I am new to embroidery so this is all a challenge to me. Sandy

My ULT technician put lots of oil in my bobbin case and it smoothed things out lots.

Think the operative word on this one is that (especially under warranty), that the technician put the oil in....

As side note and it depends on your dealer (not that it should matter), but maintenance/tuning issues tackled by the owner while still under warranty can be grounds for arguement/problems with future/real warranty issues... Not defending it, just seen it happen...
