First project done!

I finished piecing my quilt top and finished off the pillow from my Basics of Quilting class! I'm having them quilt the lap quilt at the store - that will be another learning project... Machine quilting the pillow went pretty well (the hand quilted bird in the center went horribly) but I'm anxious about taking a whole quilt just yet. They're very simple but I'm proud :) Here's a pic:

And I'm thinking this is quite the addictive hobby. I spent all day yesterday staring at fabrics and picking them out for my next project

- a sampler we'll make in Beyond Basics that starts Monday. 5 hours in 3 stores! I had a chance to look at a bunch of the baby books and quilting magazines you all have recommended as well - thank you! OMG

- it's a bit overwhelming and I just want to get them all....all!

WOOHOO.... happy dancing the jig with you! Looks good to me... and yes... the addiction is quite strong!

Repeat after me.... My name is____________... and I am a quiltmaker (quilt-a-holic... fabric-a-holic).

My problem... is that when I start the 12 steps.... they are always in the direction of the nearest quilt shop! ;-)

So tell us more about the colors/fabrics for your next project!

Thanks guys!!

I like that - "quilt-a-holic" :)

My next one is much brighter - asian fabrics with blues, magentas and greens. More jewel-toned. I found a fabric that I loved and then matched it. I guess that's the way it's done...but it took me a couple times to realize that it Can be done and isn't as overwhelming as I feared. I was almost paralyzed standing there among thousands of bolts (hundreds? felt like millions...) and not knowing where to start! The women in the shops are great - taking time to suggest matches and teaching me that light colors really are okay - and necessary (I'm drawn to the darker colors).

So much fun!

Well done, Steph! What a very bright and sunny matching pair. There's nothing quite like your first completed project - enjoy it.

You're right in saying that the hobby is addictive. It becomes less a hobby, more a way of life! . In message , Steph writes

They are both lovely! That green inner border is just the right thing. Well done! As for buying fabric, why hold back? It's like paint to a painter -you need lots of colors, even more because fabric doesn't get mixed on a palette. Buy the books you like too -I always go ahead and start a project whenever the mood hits. They all get finished eventually, and they can't be finished if they aren't started! Today I'm about halfway through quilting a "leaders and enders" project, a lap size with 12 bear paw blocks made of HSTs that were sewn together over the past couple of years, in between making the "real" projects. Way to go Steph! You sound just like the rest of us--so many projects and not nearly enough time for them all.
