Bamboo Batting

Has anyone seen or used bamboo batting? If so, please give me the scoop! I was just reading my new issue of Quilter's World and saw the little blurb on it. It looks interesting, and I'm going to have to get my hands on some.

I bought some but haven't used it yet (to tell the truth, I forgot about it). I got it at Joann's and I can tell you it's incredibly soft.

I can always count on this group to keep me up on the latest tricks of the trade.

This sounds great. My one question that I couldn't get much info on was bearding. I guess we'll have to wait a big longer till more people play with it to find out.

I have some. It is luscious feeling. Haven't actually put it into a quilt yet. really soft, thin so more "old fashioned" than "puffy". JoAnn stores are supposed to carry it, if there isn't any in stock they should be able to order it. (and you can use a coupon ??)

Once again you have all convinced me that this is not only the smartest place on the planet, but that I need to go to JoAnn's and find this fantabulous batting! And now that I have seen Louise's longarm capabilities (on top of Polly's gorgeous piecing), I'm going to have to save up some cash and get my first quilt (that has been a PIG for *mumble* years) finished up within the next year! Yep, that's my goal!

For those who have used it, did you pre-soak as described on the Fairfield package?

Hi Tina,

I was reading the package at Joanne's today and the one I saw didn't say to soak it. It said it would shrink 2-3% and can be quilted up to 8 inches apart.

It is pretty spendy though......$14.99 for a crib sized.

Let us know how it works.

Pre washing isn't necessary, it is only recomended because of shrinkage. Depending on whos batting you bought, shrink will be less or more, due to fiber quality. If you want the aged antique look, don't soak before use; then when finished and that first wash is done, you will have the aged look of gandma's quilt. Check out the manufacturer, Fiberco incorporated, they have lots of information on the saurce and use of bamboo
