Ok. so i finally decide to jump on the wagon and give e-bay a whirl. i foundthe generator i needed to run lights/fan at my art shows and bid. i was theonly bidder and won it. i tried to do the pay-pal thing but to sign up youfill in a form that instead of allowing you to fill it all out then submit,requires you to wait after each field is filled out and the whole pagerefreshes. ( my jargon may be awkward) at any rate after about 15 minutes ofthis i decide to go with a money order. i send it off, wait and wait, thenget an e-mail from the seller that they don't have the thing. (they had abunch more also up for auction???) so they tell me they will send me arefund. NADA zip zero ripped off. try to go to e-bay and they say they'lllook into it but you won't be allowed to know the results as it is private.so end of rant. got burned my first time out of the starting gate andthought i should share as i never hear the downside of e-bay being bandiedabout! m

Michelle, that's a terrible thing to happen, and I'm glad you let us knowabout your experience. While I'm sure there are many happy ebayers outthere, it is experiences like yours that will eventually give ebay a badname. In the early days, it was great, but now it's just become a fantasticway for con artists to rip people off.

oh, the generators may be outlawed more for the stink but noise is also a factor.

Well, many of the shows are in spaces that are wide open with electrical only on the walls (gyms, meeting halls, ballrooms). Getting the electricity to the center of the room requires either rigging it overhead or running under walkways, either of which requires electricians and inspection by the fire marshall if not union installation - lots of dollars and planning.
