Being OT on RCTN

====================================================== Maybe we should all be putting a line of some sort on the line before our answer; something like I did above, or stars, or whatever. That should take care of the problem.

But surely that is according to how you set up your news reader, or email, come to that matter. I use Agent and I can elect to have > with

**. In another group one fellow used # and ### till we all yelled at him to stop.

I just did a reformat and had to reset all my settings. I had complaints all the time from one person here - who shall be nameless - about the lines down the sides of my emails lol

I figure I am going daft now! I didn't think there was a problem to take care of, other than that Darla is not quoting any of the post which she is answering.

Pat Porter was doing it too a few weeks ago and that was something to do with her settings. She had it set so that when we answered her, nothing was left of her post. She corrected it.

The bar is put in by your newsreader (it substitutes the bar for the > characters). Sometimes the newsreader gets confused about the quote characters and then doesn't make the substitution.

Apparently my newsreader doesn't add anything and unless I put it into a signature line I can't see any way to make it do that.

Does anyone think it's important enough to search and try to find a cure for what I think is a non-problem?

I'm talking about the vertical line next to the quoted material from Ericka, and yes, your newsreader did put it in, just as mine put in one next to the material from you. And you've been spacing down enough now that it's clear who wrote what. Thank you.

I'll try to remember to leave the spaces from now on.

I've suddenly become aware of the format and I note that whether my answers have the arrows or not seems to depend on other people's newsreader rather than mine.

It is set to use the arrow, but it doesn't always seem to care about the setting.

? Your newsreader is putting in the appropriate quotes as far as my newsreader can tell. I didn't snip anything from your above post, so you can see how it looked to me. Your newsreader quoted my post (inserting the ">" characters in front of each line) and put the appropriate attribution at the top. I'm not sure what you're worried about?

Might be a text vs. html format thing.

Nope, my newsreader is set to text only.

I'm not worried, but others seem to be. I think my messages come through however they care to and I don't think it's important enough for me to get into a hassle with an inanimate collection of words. So from this point on, I'm done with worrying and saying:

Good Night to All, Sleep Tight, and don't let the bedbugs bite.

But it might respond differently to *incoming* html formatted messages.

Ahh, that always brings up memories. My sister's godmother used to put us to bed, bouncing the bed and saying:

Good night, sleep tight Wake up right In the morning's light To do what's right With all your might And Don't...Let...the Bedbugs...Bite!

Best wishes, Ericka

The other side of the Pond, it used to be

Goodnight, sleep tight Don't let the bed bugs bite If they do, I'll take my shoe And cut their little heads in two.

Agent lets me choose what symbol I want to use for quoted material. I opted to go with >.
