DImensions/DMC conversion

Hi all

My DD called the other day with a list of Dimensions floss numbers she wanted converted to DMC. When I checked the lists I had, she had numbers that weren't on my lists. So I did another search and came up with a couple different lists, with different conversion #s.

Sooooo, I redid the list, including all the old ones I had and the newer ones I found online and listed all the possible conversions. If anyone is interested in a copy, or would like to put it on their website, LMK and I'll email the doc to you.

Two things....first I was glad to see your post; I thought Verizon had done it to me again! Guess everyone is doing other things, like shoveling snow or playing Trivia!

I would like a copy if you could email it to me, Joan.

many thanks

Maybe they've finally got it figured out!

No shoveling for me....the wind blows most of it away! :) BUT it is supposed to be in the 20s and 30s all week! WooHOOO!

On its way!

Joan, are you a member of RCTNP? Could you post it in the files there?

Okay, we have the conversion chart up on rctnp - you will find it under Files; there is also a jpeg one in photos, but not great reading. If you don't belong to rctnp and would like to, go here

and ask to join, mentioning rctnso I will know you are not a spammer !Thanks to all for good suggestions and also to Joan for the chart shesent me and whomever it was who originally made up this chart, CherylI think.

Perhaps there are other informative things we might like/should add to Files where they are handy to find anytime.

People know my background is science. Would it be an idea to add the RBG values for all the colors? Jim.

There's a comprehensive list of conversion charts etc on this webpage.

But I've no idea how accurate they are

If you have them, I can add them to rctnp -

Yes and no. They can be found from Pattern Maker, but it takes quite a long time, and I have not done it. Jim.

Well if you can send me the pdf's, or whatevers, I can upload them okay. I don't have Pattern Maker and I must say the rbg is not something I have ever considered looking at colours, well not unless it was a television adjustment or for my cameras, but I don't know, others might consider it.

Perhaps others can tell us ?

I use this list, (thanks Jim), when I set up my ink jet printer to match the colors of my stitched pieces and the lettering on the greeting cards I make out of the pieces. Rachel in Scottsdale

Honestly, the only time I use the RGB numbers is for print jobs. And, more often I'll use CMYK. With my graphics software I can have the color numbers listed, and if things are going to a commercial print, then you can verify colors - but....WRT computer monitors, most monitors are kind of close - only really pricey monitors that are set for color matches really will show the "true" color. I can't imagine what the use would be for most stitchers. Big exception - people do match things to the Pantone color scale - which matches to a lot of paints, printing applications - and of course pantone markers. You can get a Pantone card thing - like one of those big things of paint chips riveted together. The only way I could imagine the numbers being useful for stitchers would be if designers actually checked the colors of their design versus whatever the picture on their chart cover is - frequently quite different. I guess it would be helpful if you were playing around and had a number you can pin-point that and then vary around the neighborhood for other colors.

That's one of the lists I started with. When I found multiple lists, I combined them to make the current list. AFAIK, mine's the most complete DMC/Dimensions available. If anyone looks at it and sees some missing numbers, please let me know.

My simple thought was that if you are converting from, say, DMC to Amchor, the RGB values might help you decide which colors where the closest match. Jim.

Good point. Honestly, I just end up comparing the swatch books.
