Eterna Silks - Colour Comparison?

I am looking to convert the DMC called for in a project to Eterna Silk. In looking on their website, some of the colour conversions seem significantly different than the DMC "equivalent". If anyone has used Eterna as a substitute for DMC, can you tell me how the conversion measures up?

TIA, Mellissa

do not know if it still works It is 4 pages long

If it is not email me with the numbers you wish to convert and I will look to see if they are on my chart. Shirley

Email Eterna, they are most helpful.

Eterna Silks were developed to color match (as close as possible, allowing for the difference between silk and cotton) DMC floss. As many of us have discovered, DMC dyelots are not always consisten, so what matched 4-5years ago may not match now, and the newer DMC flosses may not have equivalents.

I've never had a problem using the Eterna conversions, as long as I swapped all of the threads. I've done a number of pieces with Eterna instead of DMC.

Shirley,

Thank you for directing me to the Eterna website. However, it was while I was beginning the process of ordering the silks from their website that I noticed the possible difference in colour. If you have any experience with using Eterna in place of DMC, I would be grateful to hear how the colours match up. I have a feeling that my monitor is distorting the colours (note to self: buy a new monitor).

Thank you for your assistance :-) Mellissa

I used the conversion chart for a project that used over 80 colors on it. Two of them had alternative choices so I bought both and it is pretty close on them all and I think they did a tremendous job on that DMC--->Eterna chart! barbie from williamsburg

Email me with the number you want to convert. I have all the DMC threads as well as the Eterna threads and I will match them for you using the actual threads then send you the Eterna numbers.

I can match them under a daylight lamp. Shirley

Oh yeah. You can't go by the color representations on the monitor to match anything. Even different sites will show the same number very differently.

Matching thread "in the flesh" is best, if you can do it, but I've found that the Eterna conversion guide is very close.

Most are very close, though there are a couple that are off. I'm doing the three Dimple Designs kingfisher patterns in Eterna instead of DMC, and I think there were only 4 or 5 out of the over 60 colors used that I didn't like the conversion. I think this is because, as someone pointed out, there are dye lot differences and lighting differences. What matched in one type of light didn't match in another. I finally decided to use the match found in full daylight, no artificial lighting.

If you want, tell me what DMC colors you are trying to convert, and I'll compare to my Eterna (I have the full lines of both the mini-twist and the flat).

Also you can save the Eterna colored charts and the DMC one and compare the colours with the numbers from both charts....Hope this would help
