Finding Loved Ones in Katrina's Pat

I know that several of you here have loved ones in Katrina's path that you have been unable to contact since this past weekend.

I recently read an article where Ham Radio operators are trying to help find "lost" relatives. It's organized by the Salvation Army:

's worth a shot. I know my Dad (RB 1988, his call was KC9ED) was in hamradio, and he helped during local emergencies in many different capacities(finding people, organizing rescue), he even helped with the local paradesthat were held in the community. Ham radio may be "ancient", but it's wireless, a *lot* of operators have mobile (battery operated) units and they can connect via direct communication (radio-to-radio) as well as through the use of 'repeaters' (similar to a cell phone, goes through transmission towers until it reaches it's destination) and more than one person can receive the 'call' so the message has a better chance of getting spread.
